Is Pattaya Going Downmarket?

Ex pat Retirees I met in Penang & KL seem much more content with the fact they can own property & not have the 'Police State' mentality of annual immigration checks etc. but some others I met in Bali in Sanur are happiest there. Personal taste as with everything in life

Bali is beautiful but unless you surf or dive, not much to do there I would imagine. Also, public utilities, roads, medical, and shopping infrastructure are nothing compared to Pattaya/Thailand.

Now lets see now - why would a person live in Pattaya if not for the oppressive heat?

The weather, beaches and most other things are better back at home in Australia.

why would a person pay fancy OZ income tax if he/she can avoid it? :whistling:

Some people consider paying tax a social responsibility. :o

One used to be able to think like that, but now the gov'ment wastes so much of it on social engineering and politically correct insanity ( applies to any western government ) I certainly don't believe that anymore.

Ask anyone in the USA or Europe if they think bailing out banker criminals is a good use of THEIR money!

Pattaya has always been a "value" destination. Your budget goes further here and most people like a bargain.

Pattaya going up market? Hmmm, if I want "quality" I can think of other places with cleaner water. But, for the money, Pattaya is a good deal.

Then there are the babes :D

And in Pattaya there are not just Thai "babes", but also Eastern European "babes" , who seem to have cornered the market on the "sexy" genes. Is there anywhere else in the world has such a great combination? If London had such attractive women, I might have wanted to hang around a bit longer- but alas it hardly registers on the list of places to see beautiful women.

Central seems to have become a popular place for Russian women to go shopping- oh yes, great place for burd watching.

Alas, the "sexy gene" that you refer to in Pattaya is somewhat offset by the very un-sexy gene pool of the Pattaya sex-pat.

Ex pats in KL and Penang, everywhere in fact in Malaysia and are much more content, amazing the difference between here and there.Everything I have seen of late GDP,quality of life polls etc, indicate Malaysia is outperfoming Thailand hands down.

Your right regarding public utltilties, roads, medical /dental,shopping infrastructure, broadband etc etc are nothing compared to Thailands,it's miles ahead, all to do with it's oil wealth I guess. The 1 Malaysia programme is good for English ,but the MM2H keeps getting changed, better just go for the 3 month stamp

Not really who or what you are referring to; of course, my comments were in reference to BALI.

Depends on what you are looking for! Me, I'd be bored to death. Several guys in my development work in Malaysia. At the end of their schedule, they can't wait to get back here. All are married. None would move there. But, to each his own.

I had to do some driving around town a few days ago. Quite a bit of new development going on between 2nd and Beach roads...

That's very unfair - You can't judge the quality of someone's "sexy gene" based on what they look like in old age.

Of course there are some sexy old folks, but I did not mention age in my post above. A freudian slip on your part?

There was no "freudian slip". Expats are normally quite old and past their good looking prime. I'm merely pointing out that you cannot judge a person's sexy genes by observing them in old age.

about subj

and what?

may be you want make from PTT Parises Louvre? But in next day all foreign tourist (may be 90%) go to other country's - 100%

all world know about PTT: PTT best place for sex

or needed to kick out of town all bar girls, in the city to legalize prostitution, to put the price for women same in Europe, and after 10 years Pattaya will once again be the village, or the same other city, such as Nakhon Si Thammarat. Many in Nakhon Si Thammarat foreign tourists? What do you think?

how people have there work or buisness?

English Translation (because I got too much time this morning):

About the subject, so what? Maybe you want to turn Pattaya (PTT) into Paris' Louvre? But the consequence is 90% of tourists will go elsewhere - of that I am 100% sure.

The entire world knows that Pattaya is best place for sex.

If you kick out all the bar girls or legalise prostitution and put up prices for the women so that they cost like they do in Europe, then after 10 years, Pattaya will return to village status and become some other Nakorn Nowhere. Not many foreign tourists in Nakorn Nowhere, don't you think?

How many people have work or business in Nakorn Nowhere?

Re Malaysia, perhaps those that live there are more content, but I've never heard that "girlfriends for rent" are available there, which is why Pattaya is what it is.

Jori, do you live in Malaysia? I keep hearing that the country is quickly becoming a strict, Islamic state. Not that there's anything wrong with that. That way of life is just not real appealing...for anyone that's not a Muslim, that is.

Malaysia is officially an "Islamic" state in that Islam is the state religion (as I believe the Church of England is still in the UK and the Lutheran church is in Germany and some other nations). The Constitution of the Malay Federation proclaims Islam as the state religion and all ethnic MALAY citizens of Malaysia are deemed by law [at birth] to be Muslims. Unlike say Thailand or Indonesia, while more than 90% Buddhist and Muslim respectively, both are officially secular states, with no state religions. (Though there are periodic attempts by religions and nationalist elements in both nations to change this.)

However, the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to Islam only apply to the MALAY citizens of Malaysia (and any converts) and not other ethnic or religious groups living in the country.

Nothing strict about this Islamic make-up,it would not take much for them (the girls) to strip off their head scarves. I used to go a-plenty to Malaysia,it is not as commercialised as Thailand, people are friendlier, the girls uglier hence a positive saving there. Some say it is boring,OK everything is not in your face, but entertainment and things to do are all there, the restaurants just feel more relaxing to be in,the range of western foods is amazing and cheaper there too, just a less threatening and friendlier place to be in,easier to integrate with the locals too, more educated and wordly wise

Now I know someone will say why do I not piss off there, but I did not recently renew my multi entry visa for Thailand, awaiting my start up blocks for pastures anew

We spent 7-8 weeks going from Borneo to the Thai border. Borneo was pretty cool, mainland Malaysia was not as cool. Few smiles, mai sanook. Completely different feel from Thailand. Islam was not a factor, other than the girls never smiled. And booze was hard to find! Even wifey was not impressed. We have no interest in most entertainment, but love to experience the local culture. Wifey has been to 35 countries now, I'm at 70. So we are fairly experienced travelers. Food at restaurants was nowhere near as interesting as here in Thailand...which I consider to be fantastic. Again, to each his own...but it was much more boring and much less fun than Thailand. Even today, at Carrefour, a Thai lady tried to help me pick out good oranges. I speak little Thai, but we had fun poking through the oranges. Thai people are just more fun.

I would pretty much guarantee there are more expats here than in Malaysia....and many here are not sexpats...here for the fun and the good food.

That's an absurd statement. The only difference is that the beauty in Malaysia is not in your face and plastered with makeup.

Ye, but its a heck of a job trying to look under the bhurka

Yes, there are a few bars there, but overall, Hua Hin is not a place I'd live in as sooooo boring.

TIT- there will always be bars and girls somewhere in every city, town and village.
