Probably for the best that bangkokchat is not IRC based. Hackers and packet kiddies abound everywhere, but there does seem to be a concentration of them in SEA. A popular SEA IRC server would be a magnet for them.

An IRC server or network is a lot of work, most of it done by IRC operators who are often ridiculed, insulted, and have their systems attacked simply for doing the hard work of keeping their IRC system up and functioning.

But the other side of the coin is that IRC is a much more flexible system than web chats and serious chat is primarily IRC based. :o
