I have a little bit of a delicate situation. I recently finished working here and handed in my work permit. Now, my visa is linked to my work permit and so when the work permit is canceled so is the visa - though there is nothing in my passport showing that my work permit has been canceled (probably about two weeks ago). I want to go out of the country to get a regular tourist visa. When I leave Thailand will they just look in my passport and see that my visa is okay, or will they punch my number in on a computer, see it ran out and sling me in jail? And if there is no problem at the border, then what about when I go to a Thai embassy? By which point I will be in a different country - on a different visa, applying for a tourist visa to Thailand, would there be any problems? There is nothing in my passport indicating that I had overstayed last time.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

Do not know the complete answer to your question but I do know that the company is required to submit a letter to the immigration cancelling your work permit. That can take several weeks to get done. I just cancelled my work permit and associated visa and got a retirement visa..

Hi -

If less than 15 days since termination, you can depart unmolested, and Thai diplomatic posts outside Thailand will know nothing of your situation.

In the real world, you have nothing to fear, even after months have passed.

Cheers!
