Hdd Partition Disappears. Reappears On Startup

Have HP Laptop with 300gb HDD partitioned C, D, E.

Lately the D Drive drops out every few days. Restart and back as usual.

Anyway to stop this drive loss?

Could be a file system or hard drive problem... Either way, it would be wise to backup or move data off D drive just to be safe. I would also check the drive (for defects) using diagnostic utilities provided by the drive manufacturer.

Drive is used for Data storage and backed up twice a day... SMART Status: Healthy

I'm thinking bad or corrupt partition table may be the culprit here. One way to find out is to delete partition (D:) and recreate it; or use TestDisk to fix the partition table.

Whatever you choose to do, don't forget to backup your data beforehand. :)

As Supernova mentioned earlier, backup your data and use testdisk to see where your problem can be. Usually it comes with overlapping partitions. Unless you know what you're doing, delete all partitions and reformat your hard disk. And before reinstalling everything, run testdisk under DOS to verify that everything is ok.

Will reformat and run testdisk during a quiet period, perhaps this weekend.

Thanks all for help.
