If you are planning on staying for a year or more......

TOT has a special on at the moment for 12 month package. Up to ...6MB ADSL (actually more like 3 mb). Free line and modem installation ....590 baht/month. Wireless modem .....890 baht standard modem... 390 baht.

I just had it installed....waiting time about one week.

Some cable companies are offering CAT ADSL but I think it is still being beta tested and is of limited availability

CAT is offering CDMA but the air card and monthly charges are expensive

If you are here short time maybe AIS 12Call is the go.......350baht for 100 hours. Speed is about 115KB.... good enough for email etc but no good for streaming or Skype.

I just did a presentation on this to the International Business Association of Phuket. Take a look at the PowerPoint file and let me know if you have any questions.

We also cover these kinds of questions every Sunday in the free Computer Clinics. Next one in Patong is December 5, 10:00 to noon.

I've heard two different groups of opinions about the TOT 6 Mbps package - one positive, the other negative. Could you run a speed test and tell me how it turns out? Specifically, we've been running speed tests to San Francisco, using the Phuket Speed Test site.

Could you pop over there and run the test, and tell me what numbers you're getting? Either post them here, or shoot me email: woody at khun woody dot com.

If you're interested in keeping other people posted on your speeds, let me know and I'll set you up with an account to post your numbers. We have more than 15,000 sightings now, and a lot of people use the info.

I thank you, and the rest of Phuket thanks you! :jap:

Hi

After 3 weeks I have no complaints with TOT.

Test Results are as follows:

26/11/2010 1.00 pm BKK TIME Rawai Download 3.07 MB Upload 0.43 MB

My rational for choosing TOT was price and service. TOT has a large infrastructure in Thailand and when I have a problem and I know I will.....TOT has more phone numbers to call than the others.

I use the cat card, costs about 6,500 baht and 845 baht/month.

speeds average 450-700 from San francisco.

I am sure u can also get the BBB set up and I hear its up and down.

I use my nokia and ais for back up and pay 100 baht for 20 hours and u can get more hours. I can skype using it :-)

That's quite respectable for a 6 Mbps line. Thanks. I'll post it on the Speed Reporting site.

Just glancing, there have been several other TOT reports today, and they aren't as good. You've got a tremendous line. Congratulations!

TOT does seem a bit slower this past week. I just posted 2.97 download but it is early morning & I do have a download going in the background. I always used to regularly get around 3.5

Sounds good. I'll be there bright and early on January 2.

A phone line is definitely the best way to go. Check out that IBAP presentation for details.
