ill try asking here as some riders will have done it. do i need a drivers license to cross borders like thailand/laos/vietnam/cambodia with my motorbike? afaik u need the greenbook, not sure about license (which would be bad as i dont have one and not planning to get one)

With out a license there is no way you will get your bike in and Vietnam's only recognizes their own no other countries.

I trust you realise no licence means NO INSURANCE! hope you are well away from me!

Do you mean that you don't have a local(ie Thai) motorcycle license or that you don't have a motorcycle license at all?

If you have a license from your home country the you can apply for an International Driving Permit there which should cover you in most SEA countries.

If you have no license at all then you can still ride a motorcycle, just don't have an accident or get stopped by the Police anywhere as you'll be opening yourself up to all sorts of pain.
