Pattaya Jetskis

Right and as most "damage" is a scam, the jetskis being paid for days out of use are out there again fast, so one jetski could be paid by several people for non-usage, while it's still being used. Reminds me of bar workers scams with 50 lovers all wiring money in to their special one.

Or with un-bent copper assistance - if that's not an oxymoron, agree to pay the repair price, but NOT the days out of the water price until the repair has been fixed and you can definitively see how many days (realistically MINUTES) it has been out of the water.

It wouldn't hurt to observe them during the day to get some idea of what percentage of their jetskis are actually being used on a daily basis. It's hard to believe they're ever at 100%. How many hours per week are they all being used at the same time?

I see the same jet shop, in front of the blue dragon beer bar sign, beach road, doing the same rip-off scams, at least 3-4 times a week.. It makes me sick.... Saw young family of 5 from England, get ripped a new a---hole by the whole family, specially the "the old thai man with the beard" yelling and screaming at the family , while the little kids where ready to cry!! another time the old man picked up a metal stake that they use for the umbrellas, and was pointing it at falangs... how does this jet family still get away with this crap, week after week.... i can bet ya the kids from England will allways remember their holiday....sad.gif This has to stop...

Reports from The Mayor's facebook

Today there were Marine Police sitting under a tent opposite central , police in a couple of locations along the beach a marine police boat offshore , security cameras all along the beach and still a jet ski scam went off opposite m'cdonald's at royal garden.

It looks very much like Pattaya Police are not interested in assisting City Hall and they are not protecting tourist's on the beach .

Registration has not deterred these criminals and until they are clamped down hard and if they are using photo's for evidence, cameras should be examined forensically and start undeleting their sd cards to see if they are acting with ill intention.

Mr Mayor you have stirred up a hornets nest buy not implementing new regulations and insurance at the time of registration. Scams along the beach since the registration process have increased dramatically and guess who suffers the innocent tourist. Between the two shopping centres scams are continuing , these vendor know the law can not do anything to them so they are going for it big time. Please do something City hall have responsibility to tourists coming to thailand it is a disgrace and sickening to watch. Why not suspend all jet ski activity until the regulations are place ?. Hasn't Pattaya got enough bad publicity over this ?

Seems to me the registration process was just another delaying tactic, much like setting up a committee to look into it, make it look like you are doing something while actually doing nothing constructive. Why the need for registration? A ticket booth, signs saying all jet ski rentals must made through voucher purchase from booth, voucher price to include full insurance. Job done. Registration is just bureaucracy for the sake of bureaucracy!

Jet Ski Extortion.

Estimates of 300,000 baht a day x 30 days = 9,000,000 baht a month = 108,000,000 baht a year.

The estimates could be higher as I personally witnessed 5 scams happening at the same time the other afternoon.

The last couple of evenings on the beach there has been at least 10 jet ski's on saturday night and 6 last night all in dispute with scammers and tourist not many nights go by when you can walk the beach and not come across a scam.

If the scams are allowed to continue now after the new regulations come into force then there is something seriously wrong somewhere ph34r.gif

Well they have only registered the skis so far. I am pretty sure it will make little difference on the beach with the bandits finding ways round any new rules

just to rent these machines to tourist is criminal:

all the beach line of Pattaya is crowded with people (even young children) swimming in the water. There should be no boats allowed allong the whole beach.

Even 200 meters from the beach there must be a speed limit for boats (I would say, the whole Pattaya bay)

A jet-ski is a very powerful machine. Not build for normal use as a boat. It´s crazy to let them go in normal areas. Their use must be limited to special areas, where it is superficed, that no other vehicle or person is in the same area.

You can see these bastards in the see every day at about 6:30 p.m. and later, when it is allmost dark. Going with full speed and with no light. Just to see this every day is unbelievable

In the past, people got killed by these criminals and many more got injured .

I for myselve do not go in the water any more.

To see the "authorities" let these criminals do what they do says enough about the police and the local "authorities"

Meeting Aug 2010

Water traffic, not road traffic, was the subject of the Ferry Cooperation Committee meeting at City Hall on Monday afternoon. The Chairman, Mr. Saksit Potisit, presided over the meeting, which was held to discuss boat traffic and other water transportation issues, as well as review guidelines for boarding ferries correctly and safely. The main issue that arose, however, was jet-skis and their unscrupulous owners, and the various ploys they use to overcharge tourists. The committee expressed concern that Pattaya’s image was being ruined by these scammers, and discussed ways to regulate the jet-ski business. Until then, tourists should deal with the jet-ski jerks carefully!

The voucher is then exchanged at the 'town hall' and the goverment tax is deducted and every one is happy  .No registration no money. :D

Just two little quotes from the attached Pattaya Mail article:

"One new suggestion, however, was to create a centralized rental desk where tourists would purchase coupons covering rental of any jet ski as well as insurance cover for any damage they might cause."

"Chawalit added he believes public officials have only uncovered the tip of the iceberg and that many deeper problems have yet to be addressed. He advocated a team of negotiators be created to mediate vendor-customer disputes."

The first quote fills one with hope that something might actually be going to happen. The second quote right at the end of the article is more worrying "a team of negotiators to mediate disputes" ?? Why should a team of negotiators be necessary if a rental desk is set up and all jet-skis are insured so customers are protected. What's to negotiate?

All that means is that there will be more hands in the pie. Expect the scams to increase.

Did the mayor tell them he "had their cards" like he did the last time?

Maybe another trip to the beach with the staff photographer will clear things up.

the worst of it is the violence that families have to witness while trying to have a holiday, obvious yaba use to induce such mindless violence just to get the money to buy more, urine tests would stop the problem, but while the police sell yaba at soi 9 station cant see that happening

Jet Ski Scam Ending in Pattaya

BY WANRAPA BOONSU PATTAYATIMES 15.08.2011 01:53

Jet Ski Scammers operate by accusing tourists of damaging their boats and then pressuring them into paying steep fees with threats of violence

The Jet Ski Scam that has plagued beach cities in Thailand for years may have been resolved in Pattaya thanks to the Pattaya mayor and his team.

http://pattaya-times.com/a7405-jet-ski-scam-ending-in-pattaya

This headline is a bit misleading and it been sent out on twitter " Jet Ski Scam Ending in Pattaya ".

As of today there are no signs of it ending yet.
