Where Can I Get Fireworks For New Years?

Featured Replies

Where can I get fireworks in Chiang Rai? I want to light up the farm. Big ones.

If you want the real whizz bang coconut shell mortars go about 4 Km past Santiburi on the 1052 highway heading towards Phayamengrai. There is a village that makes all the funeral pyre type little houses. about 100 yeards or so after the first sharp right-hand bend there is one guy who has some concrete animals and such in front of his workshop/house.

He made me some great bombs about three years ago and very cheap too. He only makes to order though so order in good time at thsi time of year. They were about 120 baht each if I remember correctly

HAPPY NEW YEAR

We buy our Loy Kratong fireworks in the main market.

I bought some there too a year ago. Some people calls it the "Morning market".

Beside the "Old Clocktower" and the Postoffice.

:blink::unsure::)

Funny how these "talart sao" stay open all day. The big one in Vientiane is the same.

I think there's more action at ours in the late afternoon than there is in the morning.

:rolleyes::blink:B)

Most "Thai" supermarkets and wholesalers I have normally found sell a selection of Chinese fireworks, normally they stock up only for the big religious events - Lent I think is the big one. Some areas have restrictions on fireworks at other times of year, think about local crops in the fields.

I have heard (WOM) that some areas require "permission" before fireworks are let off, but this might just be a few bottle of beer or a "fee". No experience - we are remote enough that as long as it doesn't cause trouble there is no trouble.

When buying the fireworks consider a few minutes thought about basic first aid needs, and discuss with your Thai Handler - despite them assuring that everything will be fine a bucket of water to hand and an understanding of dealing with a burn is wise. I do have direct experience of this in the village, the kid that had a firework thrown at his cock still has the scar on his leg and the kid that lost half a finger still only has half a finger.

Have fun.

When I was a kid "cracker fights" were part of the fire work season (5th of November) festivities.

I suppose growing up with all my appendages still in their correct place could have been just good luck. ;)
