It’s my experience, that when doing business with Thais, then its of great importance to spend time to get to know each other and establish trust before you begin the actual process of negotiating the terms of your business relation / partnership. This seems to work pretty well, and a good beginning tends to make relations last longer and become more fertile.

On the other hand, then I once read in Bangkok Post that 82% of all Thais think it’s ok to cheat in business relations!

What are your experiences in regards to establishing long lasting business relations with Thais?

You REALLY, REALLY have to understand the Asian way of thinking. Treating people with respect is often more important than the actual pay factor. And, until you understand the strange meaning of "face" in Thailand it's hard to do business by western standards. Finding good employees you can trust explicitly is tantamount to a successful business. It can be done, but it's no place for a beginner.

And, that is on top of all other factors in developing a profitable business. Lack of capital can be a killer. It often takes several years before showing any profit. it takes a young person with a lot of dedication to start such a venture.

Moving to the business forum where you may find yourself getting a better response from more like minded people.
