I will be traveling to Thailand in July and potentially teaching there. Is TEFL and/or a Thai Culture a requirement now to get a work permit, assuming I am hired by a school or language center?

If you work for a 'regular' school then you need to take the Thai Cultural Course. You do not need to have a TEFL. For a language school you are not required by law to have either, I believe. Some schools have their own regulations and may require a TEFL.

This topic may help you:

In theory for regular schools, you need a Bachelor's Degree, and a police clearance. You will most likely be given a waiver for the Teacher's License and given some time to comply.

Best of luck and keep us posted.
