The Amazing "Art" Street Photography Of Vivian Maier

Featured Replies

My first time posting in this forum, but in case you haven't heard of this and you are an art photography fan, you are in for a treat. Both the story of this unknown in life lady (who worked as a Nanny, took photos on her one day off per week) and her work are truly astonishing. There are about 100,000 photos from her and many of them haven't even been seen yet, but here are some. It's really heart warming that an unknown like this could emerge after death. Well of course it's also sad that she never knew of her fame though its pretty clear fame wasn't really her motivation. It would have been so easy and so typical for her work to simply been thrown in the trash, never to be seen. Now it is quite likely her work will be seen in major art museums all the world. Consider the reality when an unknown poor person dies without close family, even with close family. Their stuff usually gets tossed.

Thanks for posting that, Jingthing. Remarkable photographs from a person with a good eye for composition.

The one link I gave includes a number of other links where you can see many more of her photos.

BTW, I am no art critic and I have no idea of how she will "rate" over time among the "name" photographers. I do like what I see, and based on visits over the years to photography shows at museums, many of her images certainly wouldn't be out of place at that level. The kicker of course is her mysterious life story which her "savior" certainly has a nose for, marketing-wise.
