Maid In Mae Rim / Mae Ann Area

Featured Replies

Hello,

Does anyone know of any honest maids/nannys that live in the Mae Rim or preferably Mae Ann area? We would need someone to perform typical house cleaning and also baby sit a 1 year old infant. We wanted someone for 1/2 day 3 days a week, or about 1/4 full-time. Position would be for several months, possibly longer.

I was thinking about posting to the classifieds section, but I figured that most of the maids/domestic help in Mae Rim / Mae Ann probably won't be using the Chiang Mai classifieds, and that it would be mostly word-of-mouth for these outlying areas.

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks.

A maid is easy to obtain, just advertise in the local Chiang Mai Thai newspaper called, Sur klang, based in Chiang Mai land. Ads cost between 400 and 600 baht a month. There are no professional maid agencies in Chiang Mai as far as I know, unless someone knows better?

Most of the women that respond to the ads are not professional housekeepers or child minders, mainly those just looking for work and desperate. So you never know who or what you are getting. Hardly any can supply references or have actual housekeeping or maid experience.

You employ strangers into the home at your own risk, especially riska with a one year old infant, unless the maid comes highly recommended from a trusted source.

You could advertise or search the job wanted lists in the Mai Rim job centre located next to the tax offices, but again you employ someone into your home at your own risk.

The area around Mae Ann has become a rather high rent region. But now that the dirt road behind Wat Mae Ann that connects Tambon Huai Sai with Tambon Mae Raem has been improved, ask around if any neighbors have connections within the neighboring tambon which remains a slightly lower rent district. Some of your neighbors might have connections with the Karen village of Baan Ikha, only 15 minutes from Mae Ann, and where there is significant unemployment. If you don't speak any Thai and need an English speaking maid then you will probably need to look in the city.
