ANKARA, TURKEY (BNO NEWS) -- Turkey and Argentina on Thursday signed two protocols on aviation and diplomacy in order to enhance bilateral ties, the Hürriyet Daily News reported.

Argentina's President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner met his Turkish counterpart President Abdullah Gül in Ankara. The two leaders agreed in improving relations despite the geographical distance.

The two presidents signed two protocols on civil aviation and cooperation between each nation's diplomatic academies at the presidential palace in Ankara. As a result, direct flights between Argentina and Turkey will be begin in the near future.

"We want to increase mutual investments. Some Turkish companies have already invested in Argentina. I hope that Argentinean companies will invest here," said President Gül.

Kirchner arrived to Turkey as part of her tour to the region that includes Qatar as well. She remarked that both countries' economies have been growing in recent times and through cooperation both countries could protect themselves from the devastating global crisis.

The Turkish leader said that both countries need to capitalize on their economic potential. Turkey has opened to Latin America as Gül has received many leaders from the region, such as Venezuela, Costa Rica and Brazil.

"Visits to Latin America have increased and we have opened new embassies and sent representatives. Our trade is increasing and so are our political consultations," Gül said.

Turkey and Argentina are also members of the prestigious G-20 group. In 2010, the two countries celebrated the 100th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
