What's some fun stuff to do and interesting / unique places to visit in Phuket? Our to-do list so far (mind you this is for a very long time):

- elephant trekking (what's the best place?)

- bungee jumping (best place?)

- para-sailing / jetski (best place is Patong beach, right?)

- snorkeling (best place?)

- caves (best place?)

- visit Phi Phi island (what's fun to do there, and where exactly did they shoot The Beach?)

- fishing (best place / company?)

- biggest Buddha

- Chalong temple

- ATVs (best place?)

- zipline (best place?)

Are we missing anything unique that you can do only here?

Thanks guys! :)

If you are a single man and not adverse to a risk or two then fair enough. But if you are a family man and you want to be as sure as you possibly can, that you will still be alive when you leave Thailand, I strongly advise people resist the temptation for things such as Zipline, bungee, and Para sailing. Lack of enforced regulations makes it a pointless risk in my opinion.

For those that are up for it however, I believe they have a reverse bungee (catapult type) In Patong, over Banzaan way. Not sure if access is from Jungceylon side or Nanai.

last oct my daughter wanted to try the bungee jump ( got on the tower and chickened out) and settled for the catapult ( I don't think she thought it out) screamed the whole of the ride, but later said she would do it agin. seemed safe enough

( she also did the parachute ride at the beach, agin screamed a lot, but said once is enough on that one)

The list dosnt include anything 'unique' to Phuket.....these things can be found all over Thailand and in fact all over the world........is there anything 'unique' the OP could find in Phuket?

Yes, i think "unique" is not a good word for these kind of touristy things.

Perhaps "mainstream tourist attractions" is what you are after.

Anyway, Kok Chang is probably one of the best elephant riding opportunities on Phuket.

Big Buddha has some nice views. Go early morning is best to beat the crowds.

Do yourself a favor and skip the jet ski people and especially tuk tuks. These people rip off tourists everyday and are the biggest complaint on the island.

I know of no caves on the island.

Although Prangnga (sp?) has some seen only from boats. You should probably go up to one of the Muslim villages nearby and rent a local driver (longtail) to do this. It is quite spectacular.

Or do what most of the tourists do and sign up for a tour of James Bond island. (depends if you like tours or are adventurous enough to do it yourself)

If you want adventure or "unique" things to do, how about running with the hash house harriers on a Sat. afternoon. I always find their runs adventurous.

Snorkeling is probalby best off Kata beach to the north a little bit.

Jungle beach used to be ok but that part of the island is now completely overrun with tourists.

A longtail from Rawai to the islands to the south can be an enjoyable day.

But Phi Phi is nicer (and more full of tourists)

If you have kids, the aquarium is good. Don't forget to follow the nature trail and see the turtles at the end.

Anyway, have fun in whatever you decide.

With regards to the cave, if you are up for leaving the island for a day and going to the island of Ko Lanta, about an hours ride past Krabi, you will not be disapointed with the Cave, its massive , takes about 3 hours to walk through it, over rickety bridges and through small cracks, really cool, worth checking it out.

Snorkelling, the best place I have found is Ao Sane beach near Nai Harn beach.

you could check out some Muay thai fights? or go to the new Water park in Mai Khao (expensive)

Have fun.
