The lottery numbers thing always gets me!, walking with the dogs and wife out in the fields and came across one of those terrapins wandering out of a rice paddy,, (similar to a tortoise), the wife flipped it over on its back and I asked what she was doing?

"see if lottery number" :whistling:

Wifes Aunty had to go get the number plate number from recent fatal motorbike accident in the village for lotto, I would have thought it unlucky.

Thanks bifftastic & Bina

I know that they all mean well when they do all this. Which makes me feel bad about it. Nothing really detrimental to me or my baby , except that I worry a little about how to lose the extra weight after. dry.gif

My hubby "thankfully", is a little more open minded, though he is the biggest culprit for over-feeding me lol . ( over 20 kg my original weight ) Funny thing is, I have very little cravings compared to him ................ heh heh he too put on a ton of weight , had to join the gym . biggrin.gif

I have between two weeks and a month to go . We all are superstitious to some extent.

Baby naming............ no war here so it's mostly going to be luck based, I did say I DO NOT like "bank" so that's out !!! Bank is a very popular name here ( Thailand ) yes bank as in where you deposit money bank. DO your kids have a middle eastern name or a Thai name bina ? As you already know mine will have one of each. As in both a Thai and a foreign name .

No fire here biff, but baby's going to get his head shaved and be blessed by a monk , I have no religion , but papa is a staunch buddhist I'm good with that. do you guys practice the same religion bina?

bina last question............. did your belly itch like hell ? nothing I do seems to help stop the itching

Posted

ok ok one last superstition.

baby brings luck lol

last month we went to the casino's all the Thai's, "strangers" mind you , all women, were rubbing my belly for luck before they made a bet . My hubby keeps asking me to buy lottery tickets cos I am pregnant, will do so today at hospital lol

funny now, but scary then, when all these strange women were coming up to me to rub my belly.

garyh : same thing happens in Singapore , some traffic jams are caused by peeps slowing down to take the car plate numbers in an accident.

lucky numbers on fish , yes fish from fish tanks

lucky number 8, unlucky number 3 & 4

lucky year to be born, year of dog and dragon - unlucky tiger and ox

if you are unlucky, cut your hair to throw away the bad luck ( for women )

sharpening a pencil from both ends - brings bad luck to parents

have sex with a dark skinned woman if you are unlucky ( for men )

never give an old person the gift of a watch or anything dried, it means that you are wishing them death

never leave an umbrella at a friend's home because that would end the friendship

never gift people, shoes, or any other "sharp objects" , ( we get around this one but 'offering them to buy the gift for a dollar from us ) blink.gif

and many many more................

MY kids are from the previous husband (israeli) but the names went like this: the first daughter we named zohar (means glowing light) until the birth. then i felt that i had to name the child with at least the first letter of my grandmother's name (in my ethnic group the kids get named after old dead relatives but in my family we just use the first letter from either english or hebrew), so daughter once born became tzvia (gazelle), and actually, she has been around animals her whole life and works now at the zoo. with my son, my ex had no such requests, so he chose a name that would also be 'natural'. the third, i asked to name the girl, and went in the same line of nature names. many people here do consult rabbis and do convuluted math solutions to get kabbalistic names that bring luck, fortune etc. non of my kids got middle names btw. my name, btw, is a kabbalistic name, my parents named me based on a dead relative that began with the same letter, this is what the rabbies gave them, and ive been bina 48 yrs.... it means wisdom btw.. (the feminine form of intelligence)

as for our house: buddhist/jewish cultural mix (son is mildly religous, youngest is superstitous and oldest doesnt care either way)...

and yes, belly itched alot... the skin was stretched so much, just use jojoba or almond or other skin oil... and i gained 24 !!! kilo (i started at 42 kilo) but dont worry, i am now 50 kilo at age 48 , lots of stretch marks , i proudly show them off it means i was a mother!!

Hi there,

The lattice and roses seem a bit odd to me, especially if you consider that the rose is the national flower in Thailand, and above that it's very hard to find a garden that has no bougainville in it and these have extremely vicious thorns.

Maybe something local?

Yermanee

The Rose is not the national flower of Thailand it is the Poung Tong.

Any form of superstition , religious belief's, horror scope, and all that good old tosh is at best a sign of a backward society.

And we in the west would do well to remember that the worlds most powerful nation is really no better with a staggeringly high percentage of its population

still clinging to antiquated outdated, proven false belief's and not a single one member of its senate having the gut's to proclaim themselves an atheist.

Quite frankly, it's a disgraceful waste of a human mind.
