Belgian ,,, Please Help

Featured Replies

Hi

Today , I got my international driving permit from the city hall in Belgium and

I saw that in the front of the permit "8 november 1968" in place of "convention on International Road Traffic of 19 September 1949" :o

So that's mean I can't just apply for TDL and just do only color blind test.

And I have to do the test for that...right?

OR...

How did you do to get the TDL?

Please give me some advices.

Thanks

Look at the top of this forum but you need the IDP, your original DL, pics, proof of address(normally easiest from embassy), passport with visa(not tourist) and will (normally!) only have to do a few of the seeing/reaction tests, not the actual driving/theory tests.

Cheers!

Thanks Firefan ,

I've already read on the top of this forum and that's the problem

6. International Driving Permit (convention on international road traffic of 19

September 1949) original and photo copy which is not expired.

My international Driving Permit is "convention on international road traffic of 8 november 1968" , so I probably can't apply for TDL and do only color blind eyes test..

Or, What do you think?

Cheers

I am obviously not a Belgium expert but I think your IDL is just fine.

Cheers!

Belgium was also a signatory to the 1949 convention, so you could ask if they could issue you with a 1949 IDP while you're still in Belgium.

(I think the major difference is that the 1968 IDP lasts 3 years, where the 1949 one is only one year - the problem being that lots of countries, including Thailand, S. Korea, UK, never ratified the 1968 treaty).

I'm assuming it doesn't cost very much, and better safe than sorry...

If Belgium won't issue a 1949 one, you could try the 1968 one anyway. Supposedly they look so similar that most people wouldn't notice the difference (and Thailand did actually sign the 1968 agreement, they simply never got around to ratifying it...)
