I am seriously considering getting one of these procedires done some time in the next few months. I know it is considered major surgery and so am looking for advice, experiences ( both good and bad ), location of places to get it done ( I live in BKK ), costs etc.

Any one out there know anything about this?

Bumrungrad Hospital in BKK is the best...go to the website...pick out a couple Drs.

that specialize in it and interview them before making your decision.

Cordially,

I heard there is Laparoscopic Bariatric Specialists in Bangkok Thailand.

They are the only team who specialize in doing both Gastric Bypass and Lap Band Surgery laparoscopicly.

Just try to search on google and type gastric bypass thailand dot com

I want to do gastric bypass myself too. But, I have to save more $$$$. My teacher salary is not enough to pay for the surgery. Er?

Actually that is a very good price seeing as now the band goes for $2000 USD alone.

There are pros and cons about gastric band and gastric bypass. Do your research as to what is best for you and your life style. Keep in mind that much of the surgery in Thailand is on a mass production basis because of the high costs in peoples home countries. If you factor in the cost of airfare, hotels it is still cheaper here. I doubt you will find a better price.

Hi ajarntrade, I have a gastric lapband fitted, I had it done in London, it is the best thing I have ever done, I have shed 9 stone which is about 57 kilo's. The only down side is that many people have to have it filled many times to find the correct filling for the band. I have had to have 4 fills so far and at £500 a time it's not cheap and so that is why I have just e-mailed 2 hospitals in BKK to get a price for a fill as I will be in Thailand on holiday on the 4th February. Getting a fill involves the doctor inserting a long needle through the skin in to the valve for the band and filling it with a saline solution. It can hold a maximum of 10cc's and I have 6.5 cc's at the moment and want another 1.5 cc's put in.

try here for more info http://www.gordcentre.org/, hope this helps.

There's a guy in an alley in Patpong 2, third door on the left and tell him Chownah sent you...that way he'll sterilize his knife first.

an alternative would be my workshop. have circular and jigsaw, drill, stapler.

joke aside! your are indeed considering to undergo a major and (i think) quite dangerous procedure. is it really worth the risk?

The band surgery is neither as invasive nor as dangerous as the bypass, and also completely reversible. Bypass I would agree is indeed a drastic step but I don't think the band is so much...but it is expensive.

Brigante,

I'm curious, can you tell me (1) how much if any of a lasting scar the procedure left and (2) is the port through which the band gets refilled visible or palpable through the skin? I am not obese but I am a good 10-15 pounds overweight and getting nowhere in getting it off, and have thought of the band but in addition to the cost, am concerned about the possible scar and also don't fancy having a device in place that can be seen or felt...so would appreciate knowing, Thanks...
