I'm normally in and out of the country every 30 days so have no need for anything more that the standard entry visa. However due to changes at work I need to stay longer. I have never used Pattaya immigration but have been told that if I go with my marriage certificate I may be given a 3 month visa. I very much doubt this but would like opinion. I am British and have Uk marriage certificate.

It is and extension to stay based on marriage for 60 days not a visa. Cost is 1900 baht, two passport photos, marriage license. copy of wife's ID and her house book and proof your residence. Immigration normally only does this once a year and only once. PS take your wife with you. FYI idea,,Phnom Penh Thai Embassy is giving out FREE double entry tourist visa 2X60/30 that would give you 6 months. This until March 31.

A UK marriage certificate does absolutly nothing for you getting any type of visa. OP did not say he is married to a Thai. Also Pattaya Immigration does NOT give out 90 day visas

Whatever country you are comming in from, if they have a Thai consulate just get the free 60+30 day Tourist visa. Double entry depending what country your comming from. You post is a little vague for a 100% reply

A grey area. I was at Khorat Immigration on the 11th February. I am on a multi O visa and my first 90 days was coming to an end. With the problems at the Thai/Cambodian border I decided t get a 60 day extention instead, I had already been denied exit at chong chom the previous week.

My 60 days ends on 14th April. I made a little comment that I would have to go back early as 14th April is a holiday. The immigration official, with the boss sitting next to her, told me that I could not have back to back 60 day extentions but if I crossed the border in between they would issue me with a new 60 days. I said I didn't need to do that as I was on a multi anyway.

She then told me that when I have made my last exit and entry on the multi O I can the just continue to cross land borders for 15 day stamps and then extend those by 60 days on an unlimited basis.

I also recently saw the passport of a guy who got 90 days extention on a VOA in Chon Buri Immigration for purposes of taking care of his child.

Grey area indeed.

There has not been any limitation in regulations for 60 day extension since the publication of police order 777/2551. The 'one time' wording was removed.

As for 90 days to care for child that might have been approved on basis of medical need rather than visitation?

The OP has a Thai Wife.

Sorry Lite. I just did not get that from his OP. That would have made a difference to my reply. It says he has a UK marriage certificate so.........

That does bring up a good point. They are going to want to see a marriage certificate and if its a UK I would thank it would have to be translated then put on fill with the MFA in Bangkok. Yes?

Immigration can read and accept documents in English or Thai. Don't believe I have seen any report of anyone who has been asked to translate there passport from English to Thai for immigration yet - and hope I don't.

The translation/registration of marriage certificate is a requirement to use for registration in ledger of District Office - for 12 month extension immigration requires a copy of that ledger entry.

I do have a Thai wife with a Uk marriage cert and documents for house in Thailand etc. Sorry if that wasn't too clear. I guess the best thing is for me to take a drive to Pattaya a few days before my visa is up and talk to them. Otherwise it may be a border run, which is something I've never done before. Thanks for the help.

Sooner or later the OP will have to register his UK marriage in Thailand. This will require translation and certification of the UK marriage certificate by the British Embassy and/or Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and registration of the marriage by the local Amphur (District Office). At some point immigration will want to see a copy of the Amphur registry.

Richb,

You stay in the Rayong- area (Ban Chang?), so it would be better to visit the immigration office in Mabtaput.

Nice place, good service ( dress propperly :whistling: )

I normally use the Map Ta Phut office. They don't give out 90 day visas as far as I know. It was particularly the Pattaya office that was mentioned to me. I'll be sure to cover up all the way from door to door, and will put a little mascara the swastika tattoo on my forehead. :D

I'm interested to know why I will eventually have to register my Uk marriage? I think I do already have a Thai translation which was required when we got the house. I think.

For one year extension of stay for Thai wife a copy of ledger entry from District Office in Thailand is now required. To obtain such you must translate and have signed off by your Embassy and then registered with MFA and then register at District Office. If you do not need such an extension of stay it is not required.

As has been pointed out there is no such thing as a three month marriage visa inside Thailand or anywhere else. Marriage allows non immigrant O visa issue at a Consulate. Inside Thailand a 60 day extension is available from Immigration. If in process of one year extension of stay a conversion/non immigrant entry for 90 days is available at some immigration offices.

We went to the Chon Buri immigration office in Pattaya today. It was absolutely packed. There was a westerner on the information desk which seemed promising. He wasn't really much of a help. He was quite abrupt and largely unhelpful. I asked him if I would get a 60 day or 90 day visa with my marriage cert etc. He could only answer 'maybe. You need to take a ticket and wait.' Maybe he is only there to direct people. The funny thing was that he spoke English with a Thai accent! Anyway the wait was 40-50 minutes I had the kids with me so had to leave. We then called the Map Ta Phut office where we were informed that the person who deals with such things didn't have a functioning telephone so couldn't talk to us :D . I guess we will just take a drive there tomorrow. It's normally fairly quite.

For the sake of easier communication, at the immigration office you should not ask for a visa but for a 60-day extension of stay, because this is what you want.

Wrong --- If the OP is married to a Thai he can get 30 days on arrival AND a 60 day extension based upon the marriage to a Thai.

I went to Map Ta Phut immigration today. They said I would need to go to Bangkok and get some paperwork, plus have 400,000 baht in the bank. My wife told them a bit of a sob story and they just gave me the 60 days there and then for the 1,900 baht. Brilliant! :D

That would have been the requirement for a one-year extension. Did you write 60 days on the application form? Forgot to mention that in my last post.
