Considering this Sigma for the Nikon D7000 as a all-rounder lens to travel with. The other alternative seems to be the Nikon 28 - 300.

Advantage of the Sigma is that it is a 3.5 - 6.3 compared to the 4.5 - 5.6 for the Nikon and also seems to have a relatively good macro function.
