We are going to Krabi in late April.

The price from Thai air is outrageous. Are they the only air line going there?

All so what about train. I have never rode one here in Thailand. Am told it would be a experience and not necessarily a unpleasant one.

As for the bus is there a deluxe bus going there.

Or a combination of train to Bangkok and bus to Krabi.

We will be staying at a resort as it is a holiday and my boy from Canada will be there. So we are really not interested in back packer accommodations. Was thinking the 1,500 Baht a night range. My boy will pay his own way.

If I fly it is about 14,000 Baht return for one person. Was told price might go down around 1st of April. For that much money I could stay ten days at my price target.

Any information or tips greatly appreciated.

I just did a search on Air Asia for late April, about 5400THB. Changing flights in BKK is a bit of a pain,as you cannot check bags through to Krabi. Still less hassle than train or bus though.

5400 is a good deal.

Thanks I have not been able to get any information from them so far. Said I had to wait in there waiting room and then threw me out of there.

Was that price return from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then Bangkok to Krabi?

As for train or Bus if they are deluxe I would consider them as a experience. Not really looking for the cheapest way but a chance to see more of the country side is not out of the question. But comfort would be the prime concern. And I am not a small man.:(

Keep trying on their site. AA is having a promo sell that has their web sit screwed up. If you get in to town go to their office at Tha Phae Gate.

I doubt it very much. Air Asia is a point to point carrier and my guess is that fare is from Bangkok to Krabi.

You should reckon on adding another few thousand for the CNX- BKK leg, but it still will work out considerably cheaper than Thai Air.

But your diet is making you smaller.......right? thumbsup.gif

AirAsia fly direct to Phuket and from there its a 2.5hr bus ride to Krabi. Not more than 5000 return to Phuket. Alternatively, fly to Hat Yai and bus from there, again direct with AirAsia to Hat Yai.

In Krabi, Ao Nang has a good selection of hotels, Phi Phi is an obvious destination and there's also Raillay, more of a backpacker/flashpacker hangout, with some quite upmarket accomodation and beautiful beaches and limestone cliffs. Search on Agoda and AirAsia for hotels, I've only stayed in sub 500B places (which in low season on Raillay gets you a nice wooden bungalow 5 minutes walk behind the beaches). Check TripAdvisor for reviews.

The fares were approx. 2180THB CNX - BKK and 3190 THB BKK - Krabi.

They sting you about 60THB for choosing a seat and a bit for Credit card booking, but that's it.

I used 22 April out and 30 April return.

I just finished booking CNX - Bali - Phuket for January 2012 and got some very good fares.

I would say that's about as good an air deal as you will get.

I am going April 22 out return 29.

Last year when we went to Bali we paid 500 baht less with Singapore Air than we would have paid with Air Asia. 20 kilo luggage as compared to Air Asia 15 kilo limit and meals on all four legs of the Journey as compared to buying a cup of coffee on Air Asia.

Not a bad guess on your dates

Re Singapore airlines, I never thought of them, I shouldn't look (as there's no way I would be able to cancel the AA fares without losing out big time), but of course I will.

I usually do my international flying with Thai, to keep up my Gold status, but we are travelling Melbourne to UK in May, SQ were a full $1,000.00 cheaper than TG!

Can't remember who Singaphor used out of Chiang Mai but it made Air Asia seem like a cattle car. and the connections were better.

Might be different fares this year.

I booked it through K and K business center and travel on Tha Phae road kitty corner from the AIS office and up about 4 or 5 doors. He does not do Air Asia but he told me that Thai Air will be lowering there prices around the first of April. I looked on line and it seemed to me they were asking around 7,000 Baht each way now. If it was return I would consider it.

As it stands it looks like it is going to be Air Asia.:( Still thinking of a train. Don't know if it go's to Krabi or for that matter if I would want to go past Bangkok on it.

Just to let you know the train from CM to BKK will take around 12-15 hours..... and it's a very old train.... sad.gif

Agreed, it limps into Hualamphong.

However, the 'special express' that leaves around 1730 has OK sleeping berths in air con carriages for under 900 Baht. I don't think the OP should opt for an upper though if he's a 'big guy'.

Looks as if your correct. Guess they dropped this rout when AA stated to do CNX to SNG.

As mentioned, if you can't get a reasonably priced direct flight, do CM-Phuket and taxi two hours tops. And bearing in mind, Krabi airport is a fair way from the beaches anyway.

I wouldn't bother with the train as a, it doesn't go the distance, and b, there ain't much to see on that leg.

There is a cheap flight to Phuket, 4170THB but that arrives Phuket at 0050 !! Taking the other flight (arrive 1515) the fare is 5372 THB (the same as routing via BKK), a Google search came up with a taxi fare of 2300THB from Phuket Airport to Krabi.

Take a short taxi ride to the other end of the runway and you're on the main road to Phang Nga. Then its about 80Baht on a bus (every 20 minutes if I remember correctly) which takes about 2.5 hrs.
