If you can get a fixed landline there is no need for sattelite, if no landlines(or none available) IPSTAR is one of the alternatives.

GPRS service through your mobile is another one and the third would be Hutch's aircard(not sure you got coverage though).

If you're a heavy user and/or need decent speeds go for IPSTAR, otherwise i guess GPRS would be the way to go (Good promo at the moment from AIS)

One customer, on here used aircard. One month from the phone supplier, would have paid for installation of IPstar plus first 3 months rental.

PM for info on Ipstar specific to your needs.

IPSTAR is the way to go except in my opinion if u don't need the speed (and the full 750 mb) you should go with GPRS.

AIS promo (till 07/01/2004) 1200 Baht/month(excl.vat) for unlimited GPRS internet access + you can use up the 1200 Baht for voice calls. Only catch you have to sign up for a one year contract, and only the first 6 months you have unlimited acces, the second 6 months only 200 mb/month and 10.24 baht/mb if over...means you get 327 mb/month if you don't make voice calls for the second 6 months...No set-up fee except for needing a gprs capable mobile

AIS GPRS promo

Hutch is indeed very expensive, only advantage is the mobility...and not everybody can place an IPSTAR dish :o (Condo's etc...)

If you are on an island, say phiphi or samui, what are you options for internet ?

Do you need to get satellite, or is there existing infrastructure?

There is an IT-center on Samui, in Lamai, have broadband there, all Lamai have ISDN now. :o
