DENPASAR, BALI (BNO NEWS) -- Five people are feared dead in Bali, Indonesia's west coast, after a strong currents swept them away while they were swimming at the beach on Monday, officials said.

Jembrana Police chief Adjutant Senior Commander Irfing Jaya told the Jakarta Globe that eight high school students went out swimming at Pangyangan Beach late Sunday afternoon, and while two of them were confirmed to have drowned, three remain missing.

All eight are from Bulelang Village and aged between 15 and 19. They arrived at the beach at around 5 p.m. local time and decided to go out swimming despite locals warning them of the strong currents.

Three of them were saved by local fishermen and residents, and two bodies were recovered. Rescue and search teams have been trying to find the other three missing individuals, but weather and low visibility have hampered their efforts.
