Favourite Thai Words

Featured Replies

Do you have any favourite Thai words?

One of mine is บุคลิกฦาพ (buk ka li ga paaap), not sure why, I just like the sound. Another onomatopaeic word is "ngut ngit". I like all the "ngaw ngu" words.

This is one I like - เงง , which is a new word meaning bored and confused - comes from เส๊งand งง I suspect.

I also like the word "teo" as in "bpai teo", as there is a souind of fun in the way it is said.

'cheun jai' when drinking a refeshing glass of water on a hot day, or "long jai" when taking a leak.

Do you have any favourites?

I like the sound of word for Firefly

หิ่งห้อย Hing Haawy - It just sounds like I imagined Thai should sound like.

หงุดหงิด -ngut ngit- irritable mood -as you say also has a great sound, I've always loved this

บุคลิกฦาพ - you'll have to help me here, what's it mean?

I know งง ? never heard เงง Before

For onomat.... words that sound like what they are, I like โขยกเขยก - to hobble or walk with a limp.

บุคลิกฦาพ - individuality. I like it too.

ฟังแล้วเงง - I listened to what you've said but I've got absolutely no idea what you have been saying.

บุคลิกฦาพ - you'll have to help me here, what's it mean?

Posture... or what is your posture like? Or maybe, you have good posture?

บุคลิกภาพ - individuality. Note the previous misspelling.

I find the hardest word, or the word with the most meanings is ' Mai mee'

it means;

We don't have it

We have it

I don't know if we have it

We have it but I don't know where it is

Whats that

We have it but I can't be bothered to look for it.

Sold out

I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure

I don't know what you mean

My friend knows but she's not here.

My friend knows but she's eating.

Go away

I've always liked the word for towel. Par kon noo. It translates as "cloth of mouse hair".
