Will have to try The Chedi at some point.

I am used to California Indian, which is probably the same as English - delicious stuff.

Bollywood wasn't bad when I was there, I'd go again. It was extremely spicy but then again I told them I like spicy as I didn't want them to water it down for farang tongues. But as I found out... they're serious! It's SPICY :)

Talking of spicy (as in hot) I have never tried Phaal, only Vindaloo, which was still too hot for me. My maximum is a good Madras and it would be nice to find one in Chiang Mai.

Coming to Chiang Mai soon - real Brick Lane curry?

"The phaal is considered one of the hottest curries, if not the hottest, available at Indian restaurants, although it seems it's about as authentic an Indian dish as chicken tikka masala is. Made with at least 10 to 12 ground chillies, it's described on Brick Lane Curry House's menu as "an excruciatingly hot curry, more pain and sweat than flavor. For our customers who do this on a dare, we will require you to state a verbal disclaimer not holding us liable for any physical or emotional damage after eating this curry." Anyone who manages to finish the phaal gets a place on Brick Lane Curry House's P'hall of Fame, a certificate of honor, and a free beer".

I have used Mow4u to deliver my food HUNDREDS of times over the years.

Never have I had ANY problems at all with any part of their service. :)

Posted

maybe someone ought to organize a curry competition, we could all bring along our own offerings and see who can cook up

something decent?

MOW i have used them plenty of times never had a problem with them very good service.

I am sorry for you people saying stuff on an open forum you don't deserve it .

Maybe new management?

Today was a definite miss.

Has anyone bought from the British Indian curry place that is somewhere down south thailand. I believe they deliver, but they have a big minimum order.

Phil

I've had stuff from this palce Phil. Very very nice food to be fair. I've tried one of the curries made here in CM from Rimping (not mentioning any sponsor names) and it wasn't in the same league.

I also know that Brit Indian Curries are considering entering the CM market place so fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later.

Also, there's supposedly a new place opened up at the very bottom of Loi Kroh near the night bazzar which I've heard good things about. Planning a trip later in the week so I'll let you know

I hope brit indian curries do start selling them in Chiang Mai, without doubt the best curries I have had in Thailand, pity that I have to wait until I go to Phuket to get one. I brought a lot back last time but sadly they have now been eaten and Im out. Lets hope he goes in to Rimping with them so there always available.

Brit Indian Curry's website is certainly mouth watering and they even do Phaal for those adventurous enough to try.

Would be an asset to Chiang Mai.

How different are British curries from American curries? The only time I've tried any curry in America, was with a friend in a Chinese restaurant.......it was yellow, smelled like curry and ended there. My American friend seemed to enjoy it though.

Most Americans are not big on curries unless we go to an Indian restaurant which there are not a lot of (unless this has changed in the last 20 + years).

But they have some great Chinese restaurants.smile.gif

Be nice to have some American opinions of a good Brit / Indian curry.

Chinese style curry is very different to Indian style curry. Usually tastes more sweet and quite often a thicker sauce as well.

Can't really comment on American curries, never knew there was such a thing lol. I would imagine they are Indian but adapted for the American markets as British style Indian curries are.

Safe to say I think we're all looking for the same thing though lol

Tried the new Indian place down the bottom of Loi Kroh last night with a friend.

We had starter, main course, rice & Garlic Naan each with a small Singha & Large Leo each.

Total cost 990Baht.

Very nice food and very good service (we were the only people in there though lol).

Food is all cooked fresh so takes a while but it's a nice enough little place to sit and have a drink & chat whilst it's being cooked.

I consider it good value for money and will be eating there probably on a regular basis.

Can't remember the name of it though, sorry.

Sooooo, curry prices at The Chedi?

:-)

From the a la carte menu, price you should expect to pay for starter main course and nan bread would be around 800++

The Sunday Buffet Indian is about 1000++ to 1,900 ++ including free flow wine and beer, but that is of course all you can possibly eat and drink

If the curry was cooked fresh you would have been waiting hours...poor you.

Now I really miss the east end.

Now if you could locate it on Google Map it could be useful for some of us who would be happy to try this restaurant. Thanks.

For lunch today I went to a Burmese restaraunt on Nimman road. It also has a library apparently.

Anyway a chicken and potato curry cost 30baht and it was bloody delicious, real indian style, even had cumin in it! lol

They seem to have many other dishes on the menu such as Biryani aswell, would definately recommend taking a trip down there.

Whereabouts on Nim?

The Burmese make good curry.......the Indian curries in CM are rubbish!

Sounds good... what Soi number is the restaurant located?

Thanks...

It's in between the new'ish' Kasikorn bank and Tesco. On the same side of the road, you'll see it a little bit down a small soi.

It's got a big sign saying "Burmese restaraunt and library" which you won't miss.

They sell thai food and a couple of Shan dishes aswell. Unfortunately no nan's or bhajis were spotted, but one thing they do have which looks bloody interesting is "tea leaves salad"!

Cheers James - Nim is usually a place I avoid, but this sounds interesting. smile.gif

Lousy service, many items snot available, oily food. Nothing worth recommending about this place. Enjoy Le spice & my partner is Thai and hates salt so there is no problem there. Pity they have such variable staff, but that is a major issue in this town.
