Hi,

I've just had a friend ask me if it's possible to get a town house around the Sathorn, Silom area for around 10,000 THB/Mo.

This area can be expanded to the bottom end (river) and other nearby roads, Sois, and sub Sois.

We don't get too many local houses posted on Roomfinder yet so there are no choices there.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

A friend of mine used to rent a furnished two storey, two bedroom house Soi 9, off Narathiwat (leaving Sathorn North/south junction and heading towards Ram III), before Makro for about 11,000 baht/month.

I am currently renting a furnished three story two bedroom house in a quiet cull-de-sac off Soi 12, Sathorn North. Between BTS Surasak and Chongnonsee. Rent is 11,000 baht/month, water 300 baht fixed & electric with no surcharge about 700 baht/month.

Another guy only pays 6,000 baht/month but is "out in the sticks", about three bedrooms, sprawling single storey, etc.

Town houses can be found but not easily. I reckon the best way to find one is to select an area, go with a fluent Thai speaking person and tour in a tuk-tuk/taxi. Stopping frequently to ask guards street vendors, etc.

My first apartment was found this way, I must have visited at least a dozen different places, took about two or three hours. I decided on a 4,100 baht/month, 27 sq meters, 8th floor, furnished, air-con, with common restaurant, laundry and shop. Got ADSL installed and was happy. Only one other farang stayed there! It was 30 baht on a motorsi' to work which was near HSBC on Rama IV.

My work finished and 24/7 construction started across the road so I looked to move. Heard of my present place by word of mouth from a friend of a friend who knew a Yank leaving and going to Pattaya.

Seek & you shall find!

Cheers,

John_Betong.

PS Just remembered an excellent article on this subject which can be found on http://www.ajarn.com/Banter/rentingahouse.htm Just read it again, the writer, Bangkok Phil used to work at our place, his blurb is down to earth and very funny!

Thanks very much for your post John. It's very informative and I'll pass it on. What's more your reply highlights the possibility of finding these places at the preferred price.

The article you're referring to is also on the Roomfinder site in the Articles Renting section. Phil submitted this along with the guide to renting an apartment. Both a great read for information and entertainment.

Cheers
