Seasons Greetings to all

being a Brit happily working and living with my Thai wife and kids now we are ,back in Bkk after some time abroad I have most things fairly well tied down ,but I forgot I had promised the family a traditional ( uk style ) Christmas Lunch special treat from dad .

Needless to say I forgot till now and must get my act together and arrange something quick .... Does any one a recommendation for a restaurant or hotel in Bkk or has any one any good experiences from previous Christmas( for a family two kids 9 years and 1 year ).

Help and save my Face ! :o

you need to take a check on whats on offer ,many offer fabulous meals that dont meet the UK criteria . i have been had many times in the past by these ficticious 'xmas meals '. i would suggest you make sure the establishment is Brit owned and then you can be fairly sure they will have the right ingredients .

If Jools restaurant is still operating in the soi just along from the Nana hotel they would be a good bet . (if its still Brit owned )

The larger hotels do offer an all in xmas meal with entertainment thrown in but they dont meet the UK spec . from my experience in the past .

various nationalities have different ideas of a xmas meal so you get differing meals. DONT go to a thai owned dive they havent a clue . :D

so check and check again so you dont get scammed

I used to eat at Bobby's Arms in Patpong, but I don't like the changes they've made there and no longer go. And to me it's a bulls-eye for a terrorist attack - a crowded tourist area, a covered multi-storey car park in which to drive a unchecked vehicle with Thai-style darkened windows, poor access for emergency vehicles. Count me out, thanks.

So last year spouse and I tried the Queen's Park Hotel near the Emporium. Had a good buffet-style dinner on Christmas Eve. But this year we're buying in a turkey and sharing it with the neighbours. Bought the Christmas Pudding at Harrods when over in the UK last summer.

But I'd also agree that Jool's would be a good bet.

Being an American myself, I wouldnt know what the UK chaps here consider a good Xmas meal. I did go to a British pub/restaurant in BKK once on Sukhumvit, Soi 23 right near Soi Cowboy. It was a small place but I went for a steak sandwich and enjoyed it. Maybe they do something for Xmas.

Jools

Average Price: 250 Baht

Address: 21/3 Sukhumvit Soi 4

Tel: 02 252 6413

Editorial: As you might expect from such a long-time hangout, this hole-in-the-wall British pub has a "gloomy, dark" interior well suited to the grizzled "old-hands" that frequent the place. "Good pub food and hearty portions" give "good value."

Open: 9:00am - 1:00am

Restaurant Features: Breakfast | Live Sports | Meet For a Drink | Pub

The Cup

British | Bakery / Sandwiches

Address: Lake Rajada Office Complex, 2nd Floor, 22 Ratchadapisek Rd.

Tel: 02 264 0247-50

Editorial: A well-known "hi-so institution" for "great desserts" and traditional English food in an elegant setting overlooking the lake. Favoured by the "khunying set" to reminisce over their boarding school days, it’s a "classic" place for afternoon tea with grandma.

Open: 10:00am - 5:00pm

Restaurant Features: Afternoon Tea | Bakery | Business Dining | Cakes and Desserts|

Chequers Pub.British

Average Price: 300 Baht

Address: 5/11 Soi Nana, Sukhumvit Rd. Tel: 02 255 3993

Editorial: A "bright, modern" pub where you'll find a regular crowd of hunks and their gal pals frequenting the bar and upstairs dining room for "good pub grub" and "good sports watching" in a "friendly atmosphere."

Open: 11:00am - 2:00am

Restaurant Features: Live Sports | Meet For a Drink | Pub | Sky Train Access Station: Nana |

Offshore Fish and Chips

British

Average Price: 150 Baht

Address: 7/8 Sukhumvit Soi 23

Tel: 02 661 7830

Editorial: A no-nonsense, hole-in-the-wall joint offering just what the name says. "Tastes good" say fans, though the small space makes take-out the favoured option. Open: 11:00am - 1:00am

Bull's Head Pub,

British

Average Price: 400 Baht

Address: 595/10-11 Sukhumvit Soi 33/1

Tel: 02 259 4444

Editorial: "Good for drinking and talking, not eating" means people really drink here, though it does serve typical English pub grub. "Great pub. Don't take your respectable bird with your mates and expect them to be good" advises one regular.

Open: 11:30am - 2:00am

Restaurant Features: Happy Hour | Meet For a Drink | Pub | Sky Train Access Station: Phrom Phong |

Londoner Brew Pub :D

British | Pub

Average Price: 460 Baht

Address: UBC II Building, 591 Sukhumvit Soi 33

Tel: 02 261 0238-40

Editorial: Very popular with the expat community, this dark, dungeony hangout draws a loyal following less for its "okay but nothing special pub grub" and more for its live band, "good music", "good TV sports watching" and "fresh brewed beer".

Open: 11:00am - 1:00am

Restaurant Features: Happy Hour | Live Music | Meet For a Drink | Microbrewery | Sky Train Access Station: Phrom Phong |

Shenanigans :o

Irish | British | Pub

Average Price: 550 Baht

Address: 1/5-6 Sivadon Bldg., Convent Rd.

Tel: 02 266 7160-1

Editorial: A "franchised pub atmosphere" and "Irish melodies on tap" seems to be a magic formula that draws a big after-work crowd. "Great hamburger" not traditional, but "menu has some corkers", with "a couple of imported beers at buttock-clenching prices!"

Open: 11:00am - 2:00am

Restaurant Features: Live Music | Meet For a Drink | People Watching | Pub | Sky Train Access Station: Sala Daeng |
