MOSUL, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- A group of unknown gunmen killed a family of seven in northern Iraq on Monday morning, local media reported, citing security sources.

The Aswat al-Iraq news agency cited a security source in Ninewa as saying that the attack happened at a house in west Mosul's al-Tanak district on Monday. The source identified the victims as six women and one young male.

Few details about the attack were immediately available, but the Aswat al-Iraq news agency said all the victims were family of each other. Among them are a mother, her daughter and her young son.

"The armed men broke [into] the house [and] opened fire on all the victims, whose bodies were found covered with bullet injuries," the source told the news agency. No arrests were immediately made.

Mosul, which is the capital of Ninawa Governorate, is located about 400 kilometers (250 miles) northwest of Baghdad.
