Bike Rack For Hatchback....Exists?

Featured Replies

Well I already saw some pics so I know they exist....

I carry my bike around on a rack on the back of my Suzuki Vitara all the time, I mean 24/7.

I spend too much on gas and I was thinking of downsizing to a good little hatchback.

But the bike rack is really indispensable for me, and I actually would like a 2 bike rack for occasional second bike.

So the question is......anyone have any experience here?

Can one open the rear door upwards with say one bike on?

Is the bike wider than the car?

cheers

I had one way back.. and with that model you could not open the hatchback with the bike on it. But there might be different models.

Can't tell you which ones have the feature, but I think most of them have two ways to be set up, depending on whether the car is a sedan or a hatchback. I have one here which I use with a sedan, and I think that can also be rigged the other way. But I bought it so long ago that I don't have the instructions any more. Just shop around! Check with a big bike store, like Giant, they'll tell you.

In the US I used to switch my rack back and forth between sedan and hatchback, and was always able to open the back with the rack on. Have never experienced the bike being wider than the car--guess the car would have to be pretty small for that one

Also have always been able to put 2 bikes on any rack I've used.
