Will Vientiene Consulate Be Closed Over Songkran?

I have to do a visa run with all my papers by no later than the 14th, but due to full bookings on the train I will have to go on the 9th. I am now worried that I am going to be facing a nightmare trip to Laos as a lot of people are going and the guesthouses and hotels will be fully booked, leaving only expensive options, and that i'll have to stay maybe up to a week if the Thai consulate will be closed on Monday 11th and for days after.

Any info on this much appreciated, thanks.

Yes, the Embassy will be closed all of the official government holidays. That would mean Monday will be a madhouse at the embassy and if you go on Tuesday you will not get your passport back until monday the 18th.

I very much doubt that all the guest houses and hotels will be fully booked in Vientiane. Maybe you will find that your prefered choice is unavailable, but heaps of private guest houses and even government guest houses/hotels that seem to be empty most of the year. Suggest you just walk around or taxi around and find a suitable place.
