I AM AUSSIE AND GOT THE FREE 2 MONTH TOURIST VISA TO GO TO PHUKET AND AM HERE AT THE MOMENT BUT ONLY USING HALF MY BUDGET EACH WEEK. THINGS ARE GOING WELL AND IM THINKING I PERHAPS HAVE THE MONEY TO STAY AN EXTRA 1 OR 2 MONTHS HERE... BUT I DONT KNOW ABOUT VISAS?

MY QUESTION IS WHAT DO I DO?

I KNOW YOU CAN GET VISA RUNS EASY AND THEY GIE YOU DIFFERENT EXTENSIONS BASED ON WHETHER YOU DO IT BY AIR OR LAND AND MAYBE SOME PLACES ARE BETTER TO GO TO THAN OTHER. .. BUT

CAN WILL I BE ABLE TO GET ANOTHER MONTH OR 2??? IS THERE ANY WAY. MAYBE I CAN JUST GET ANOTHER TOURIST VISA OR SOMETHING SOME HOW? I DO A BIT OF MUAY THAI, MAYBE I COULD DO SOME EDUCATION VISA STUFF?

BECAUSE I REMEMBER HEARING SOMEWHERE YOU CAN ONLY GET 15 DAYS OR SOMETHING.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE FILL ME IN A BIT ABOUT THIS OR WHAT I NEED TO DO.

MUCH THANKS

You can get a 30 day extesion to your Tourist Visa by visiting your local Immigration office on or about the time your TV is due to expire. The cost is 1,900 baht. If you want to stay longer than that you need to return to Immigration and they will give you a 7 day extension to that for another 1,900 Baht. OR You can cross any land border (at whatever that costs) and get a new Visa On Arrival of fifteen days. OR You can take a fight out of and back into the country and get a Visa On Arrival of 30 days. Maybe others know more but that's my understanding of what's possible for you.

He can not obtain a visa on arrival (that is a different thing) but can obtain visa exempt entry. But if thinking of 1-2 more months it may make more sense to just obtain a new tourist visa. It will cost 1,000 baht now but will provide 60 days and chance to extend another 30 days. Just an overnight trip to Laos or Cambodia or Malaysia.

Please type your posts in lower case as all caps like that is considered rude (shouting) and hard for many people to read. Thanks.

Yeah, I was aware of that option too, but with so many threads detailing problems for some going that route, I was reluctant to suggest it.

Have not seen any post of having trouble getting a tourist visa for someone with only one such visa. It is the longer term 'tourist' that may have issues but that seems to only be some Consulates at any period of time.

i think what i will do is just go to an immigration office and just pay the 1900thb for a 30 day extension. if it comes to that. i might talk to some old expats i know who are pretty wise with which offices are good and so on and then maybe go in to enquire about it beforehand just to make sure its all good. i wouldnt wanna get there and have some random problem.

and regarding the posts by lopburi3 i think one more month would be ok and the 1000thb with the added costs of travelling to another border and back.... maybe i'll just pay the 1900thb. i mean in australia 1900thb is only about $60 so i dont care.

thankyou for your answers though. i knew you could do the visa runs by land or air to get different extensions but i didnt know you could simply walk into an immigration office and buy an extension for 1900.

too easy.

cheers guys!

phuket immigration is very easy and straight forward for the 30 day extension.

just have copies of ur visa and front page and tm card ( if u dont there is an office in the back of the building that will do the copies. one photo 1,900 baht

takes about 10 minutes IF they atre not busy. Go at 8:30 or 12:45

just one more thing. ive been about everywhere there is to go in phuket on the roads and that. i remember seeing the odd sign or 2 for "immigration" here and there.

are there a few offices or just 1? and if a few is it gonna make a difference to me which one i goto.. ie. which office is good?!

anyway song kran. hungover as hell. have barely eaten in 3 days. time to go out and get mao again. hopefully i survive long enough to get this extension ;)

thanks guys
