'Ignore troublemakers' lies', PM says

By The Nation

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday advised the public not to get excited over comments made by those who try to stir up trouble, like Pheu Thai party-list MP Jatuporn Prompan's "false accusation" of military interference in politics.

"The country should move forward. The move to solve the public's problems should not be stuck because of these issues," he said.

Jatuporn claimed that military teams have been dispatched to obstruct the party's candidates' from freely carrying out political activities.

Abhisit said it was the opposition's ploy to project an image that the coming general election was unfair and marred by irregularities.

Pheu Thai would also manipulate poll results by showing that they will snatch a landslide victory so that if they lose they can claim that there was election fraud, he said.

The Election Commission would be asked to ensure a free and fair election and coordinate with other agencies to remove doubts about any meddling in the election, he said.

Election Commissioner Sodsri Satayathum's remark was another one downplayed by Abhisit. She had warned that if the election were not properly conducted, there would be some people who would take matters into their own hands.

"We should give the people the chance to go to the poll and their problems should be discussed, instead of politicising the matter to respond to one person's desire,'' he said.

Fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra's speech about proclaiming a pardon was inappropriate, as the Constitution stipulates that laws must not be issued for vested interest, he said. Thaksin did not mention which offences he sought amnesty for, but Abhisit said he personally believes they should not include corruption cases.

Lawyer Noppadon Pattama defended his client Thaksin for making the reference to amnesty law, saying the Pheu Thai Party looks at the future of the country and wants to stamp out the unethical practice of double standards.

"Thaksin wants to give back rights and justice to victims of the September 2006 coup," he said.

The party would heal national divisions and bring about reconciliation by dispensing justice to all people regardless of their political colour, he said.

Pheu Thai had no plan to reject the balloting outcome if it loses. The party would respect the public's decision and would not boycott the election, he said.

He's referring to Suthep?

Suthep does it as does Jatuporn. Neither of them have any ideology but are pure political attack machines and in Suthep's case a shrewd political manipulator. Sodsri is more a kind of maverick. For different reasons not much any of those three say will be listened to by anyone who isnt an ardent supporter of them or a family member (excluding Jatuporn on that count)

There are plenty of others too. If you look at why the attack machines say what they do rather than listen to what they say, it is easier to understand imho. People like this are good source for media but discredited outside of their initiates.

When it comes to lying and general bullshitting Jatuporn is in a class of his own, Suthep looks decent by comparisom, come what may in the election it will turn out differently to that which Mr Prompan suggests and it won't be long before he's covering it with more lies and BS, I'm surprised he hasn't be slapped with multiple lawsuits for defamation, libel and more. The sooner he loses his seat in parliament the better to silence this complete moron. My local village idiot would be more appropriate as an MP.

But in this case Jatuporn's comments seem entirely reasonable to me, or at least the concern behind them.I have no information about military teams being despatched but the concern is legitimate. The Thai military does interfere in politics and has tried to manipulate elections in the recent past.

I also have no information on red-shirt militant factions which seem to have disappeared, but my concern is legitimate. The UDD leaders do interfere in politics and are trying to manipulate the upcoming elections.

I did mention TWO sides to a coin, acknowledging BOTH implicitly :ermm:

Anyway being Dutch it's more like 'orange-orange-orange', or 'ranje-blanje-bleu'.

Jatuporn claimed that military teams have been dispatched to obstruct the party's candidates' from freely carrying out political activities.

Well, they do have previous in that regard.

The other side of the coin is red-shirt gangs (said like this on purpose!) frightening Democrats MPs from campaigning upcountry.

Like k. Jatuporn I have looked at the sky and therefor can claim red-shirt gangs have been dispatched again to obstruct the party's candidates from freely carrying out political activities.

BTW as you've stated a few times to 'just hopped over from Cambodia' do you do so only to complain about things Thai?

Of course the Democrats would never behave like that and certainly not if it involved the Deputy PM's son................whoever it was it was nothing to do with the "democrats", oh no.

Edit sorry had to remove the link because it was link to the forbidden paper so you'll just have to take my word for it that Suthep's son is not just as obnoxious as his father on Samui

When has that happened during the run up to a general election? Links appreciated, thanks in advance.

You removed too much of my post you quote otherwise you could still see my source of information:

"Like k. Jatuporn I have looked at the sky and therefor can claim"

Still waiting on those links confirming your assertions as stated above.

Thanks.

If I tell you I saw what I know in my crystal ball, or in tea-leaves of the right kind, would that clarify things for you? The spirits told me. NO LINKS! Got it now? Same like dear chap Jatuporn :)

Happens IME every time in the North-West & Isaan, just as TRT/PPP/PTP people receive a warm 'welcome' in the South, which is equally deplorable.

No wonder the current PM would like a calmer atmosphere for the forthcoming election, he recognises the problem, and speaks out about it, one small step in the right direction, etc ? B)

I have seen TRT/PPP and PTP people campaigning in the south with no hassles from anyone, they just don't get many votes.

I have seen them in Surat Thani, Sutheps bastion of power, and they get freedom to say what they want and their posters are not torn down, they even get left up for moths afterwards. So this is in stark contrast to the beatings and violent break ups of political meetings in the north/north east by anyone not on the Red Side of the fence or it's precursor groups of absolutist zealots and paid thugs.

Sorry but your argument holds no water. They campaign safely in the south.

never heard of any beatings up here Dude - there were some a couple of years back (to be deplored) but your argument that 'everything in South is wonderful and we should all love Suthep' and everything red should be dead - is in stark contrast to some of your more reasonable posts (which I still may disagree with but some points are valid).

Correct, my dear chap. With most default settings you won't see a bloody thing if I write in yellow. Let try:

totally obnoxious text in yellow!

Mind you in red it works:

this is the nightsoil of a well-fed male oxen

Well, not just me. The other English language newspaper just wrote "Thaksin thinks, Puea Thai acts" is the selling point in the opposition Puea Thai Party's election campaign, former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat said on Tuesday."

Even without colour this is inspirational "Thaksin thinks, Puea Thai acts". No need to think, k. Thaksin knows it all, will tell you, and you may go home and go sleep well assured all is well. I a person accused of being one of go7, yellow colored, part of a tag team with dear aggressive/abrasive buchholz, having to go cook my fellas supper, and a few more things; I could never ever come with a slogan as illuminating as that: "Thaksin thinks, Puea Thai acts"

I really think I can enjoy my Songkhran holiday and keep smiling.

To all of you out there: don't try to stay dry, enjoy it and keep smiling :)
