Happenings At The Smith Residence?

Featured Replies

Passed the Smith Residence on my way back home a few minutes ago. Was being followed by a little auburn and white police truck with its sirens on. Noticed the crowds outside of the Smith R. Many people outside staring up. The mini police truck stopped there too.

Had two very important parts of me about the freeze and fall off, so I went home. Anyone no what was happening?

Hey Steve

You should get your vision prescription fixed. I mentioned Bing. I don't use it much but some people like it.

Maybe "Duck Duck Go" is more your preference.

Yup, no need to duck, it's going right over your head.....

Wasn't a knock on you, I was just adding to your post about LJW not doing a simple search...

BTW, what is duck duck go? - don't bother, I check with my friends...

That's what I'm hoping to find out. There was definitely a scene outside, but for posterity's sake, I couldn't stick around and watch.

was they a jumper or police closing in on a drug bust.something like that maybe

I'm often the one telling ppl do go and do their own searches too, but in the odd circumstance of a place in CM being named 'Smith Residence' (as opposed to Tawan or Lanna, say. Or even DF House or BK Court. Much more the typical style in these parts) I wouldn't expect every casual reader to even figure it's a lodging place. It sounds more like a private residence, and a vaguely described one as well. Had I not known someone who stayed there this year, I wouldn't have been able to put 2 n 2 together on that one either, and would have likely inquired further as well.

Well said. I too thought it sounded like a private residence.

Breasts...?

There are a number of hotel/short/longterm apartment places in Chiang Mai called residences

Dome Residence

Huay Kaew Residence

Chiang Mai Residence

The Loft Residence

Buarawong Residence

Just to name a few

Does anybody know if that's a nice place to stay for a short term?LOL

It is a very nice hotel and fairly new. It was built in the past few years. I have a friend who lives there and enjoys it. It's a nice community. I believe there is a small pool on the top.

I walk by the Smith Residence every day I'm in Chiang Mai. it is nice and clean and it looks to be about 7 or 8 stories high.

"Dome"? Do you mean "The Dome"?

The names of the premises you mention do not sound like the surname of a farang - so, perhaps, "Smith" may have caused a little confusion. Apologies for not knowing what the OP was referring to.

I had no idea what Smith Residence was either until I googled it.

I just know its better to search first and ask questions second. Usually get a more accurate and complete answer with a search.

Googling "Chiang Mai Smith Residence" brought me right to their website and presto complete information. That's fewer keystrokes than asking a question and does not require others to reinvent the wheel.

Being a good contributor around here might just be doing a search and posting the website or best website to describe whatever is being talked about. Product, place, food, event etc.

In all the bickering, snipeing and juvenile petiness, did anyone answer the question asked by the OP ?

I think that list would qualify as a handful rather than just a few...

When I am cooking I understand what a handful of XYZ means.

A handful of hotels/apartments would be some very large hands indeed ;-)

I'm so bored I'm replying even though I have no further comment .... sigh....

This thread has developed nicely !

I'll try and ask my friend to ask his friends at Smith if they heard anything.

Looks like another riveting day in the life of CM's expat community!

True - water throw from swimming pool to street level caused electricity lines to catch fire. Electric out for a couple of hours, internet an phones out for more than 24 hours but all back to normal now. BTW - it's long and short term residence and hotel, 2 floors of suites with separate bedrooms and 5 floors of hotel/studio type rooms. About a quarter of us are long termers, same old faces return same times each year for up to 6 months.

Thanks for your clarification at the end (prayerfully!) of one of the longest and most off topic meanderings I've ever suffered here.

Also, you win the major prize for turning a minor incident into a dam_n good promo! Thanks. Really!

Not a promo, just good value for money as far as I'm concerned. I'm suffering from ex-pat syndrome - if I never see Thai food again I wouldn't care so I appreciate the mini kitchen supplemented by my small portable oven/stove and slow cooker and every day I cook English, French, Italian, Indian, Greek - anything but Thai. An added bonus is that the owner, Dr Smith, is a REAL doctor (a dermatologist) and has saved both mine and my husband's arse more than once over the years. His wife is a pharmacist, which also comes in handy. Another bonus is if we don't see someone for a few days, we knock on the door to make sure they're OK. Nobody sees it as being intrusive, and appreciate that people have noticed that they're hibernating for whatever reason, which is usually the case. It really is a nice place to be. I'd love a bigger kitchen and have looked at condo's, but none can beat the price and location and people. I think we'll be here forever.

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.
