Hi,

Have a slightly problem.

Have 2 machines that needs to be built into 1.

My initial stumble comes from the fact that the slightly faster machine is a 'compact' box from Dell, i.e. it has a cut-down motherboard with space only for was initially shipped with it - zero extension ability.

So my hope is to find a new motherboard that has support for the same CPU and memory - but also room for other peripherals.

The Dell box is basically a http://www.pc-direct.co.za/pX057800113E/Dell-OptiPlex-780-MT-Intel-Core-2-Duo-E8400.aspx

It has a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 2 DDR3-sticks at 2048MB each.

Now when I look over some -- since most shops in Pantip lack any website or is not found by me -- websites price-lists of motherboards for socket 755 I can only find very few, and I only find support for DDR2-sticks.

So, is there any webshops -- Pantip based or general BKK -- carrying a [Asus] motherboard with slot 755 and DDR3 memory slots around?

Great if it also has support for 4+ HD/DVD's, 1+ PCI-E slot, 1+ PCI slot etc.

Any help to any shops or info if this combo is still around would be appreciated.

I see you have socket 775 in the subject description, contrary to what's given in your post... So which one is it?

The LGA775's are commonplace, with many boards already supporting DDR3 memory.

http://www.jib.co.th/

skroll down to mother board 775 on the left like 20 boards but none will be a mini form factor only ATX

I have the ASUS P5G41-M LE in one box but it only supports ddr2

they show a ASUS P5G41T-M LE maybe the T does support ddr3? it seems a change from last time I looks here. I would check careful first about that.

edit PS running the e8400 @ 3.21 with DDR2 1066 but had to dial it in in the BIOS set-up - it likes to SPD 800 because of the 1333FSB

Hi, yes, I mean LGA775, as noted here: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=33910

Thanks for noticing the typo in my post.

I am hoping LGA775's are fairly commonplace but was unable to find a decent mobo (and when I searched a main retailer in my home-country for reference they had no more LGA775's that supported DDR3, passed out of 'season' so to speak), hence my cry for help. :)

Thanks for the tips everyone, will check out the links and see!

If anyone knows if there is any decent shops in Pantip with a good selection, preferably some form of walk-in so they have mech-space to work with the computers I would be hauling in, and that is open during open a public holiday (tomorrow), that would be cool. :)

This M/B would be excellent:

Gigabyte

But it's full size, not micro ATX. Will you upgrade to full size case?

My main computer [that I will use most components from including PSU] is a full-size medium tower with an extended PSU. (Have to drive the hungry gfx-card etc.)

Ended up getting http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41TM_LX/#specifications

A shop on third floor iirc had a bunch of them and had enough staff that looked like they knew how to take apart and put together a computer without breaking it completely. 1950baht, no extra charge for taking apart 2 boxes and putting the parts together to 1 with the new MB.

So now 3 HDDs, 1 DVD reader, 1 DVD -+RW, Gfx-card etc is all together in a medium tower. :)

(I also picked up a new good fan for the E8400 CPU since the passive cooling solution DELL uses in their small boxes is garbage imho.)
