BMA prepares for summer storms

BANGKOK, 6 May 2011 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has instructed related units to brace for summer thunderstorms during this period and to take down large billboards across the city.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Pornthep Techapaiboon chaired a meeting with all relevant units of the BMA to draw up measures to cope with summer thunderstorms, which are likely during this time. Authorities were tasked with inspecting all advertisement billboards near communities to be certain that they are in good condition and firm enough to resist strong gusts of wind.

The Deputy Governor reported that at the moment there were 131 illegal signboards throughout the capital and thus assigned all district offices and the Public Works Department of the BMA to dismantle them at haste. Legal actions will also be taken against the owners of the unauthorized signs.

As for a number of structures currently under construction, authorities will also examine their building processes to ensure that they comply with the regulations. The project owners and engineers will be obliged to check the strength of the scaffolding as well as the efficiency of the drainage system.

In preparation for potential floods in the city, the Department of Drainage and Sewerage and related agencies have been ordered to be ready in all aspects, from personnel to equipment, 24 hours a day.

They have been instructed to remove, 131 illegal sign boards. Legal action will be taken? Does this apply only if they are not removed? Instead of taking legal action anyway.

Project engineers and owners will be obliged to check the efficiency of the drainage system? I would like to hope that this would also apply to all local authorities.

I agree entirely. Always some sarcastic peckerhead ready with a cheap shot in these forums. All of the negativity gets old. Thai society is Thai society and Thai society is what makes Thailand so special among all of the cultures of the world. Instead of carping about it, volunteer to go out in the sweltering heat and show the Thais how to do the job hastily and if you're not willing to do that then keep your comments to yourself. Never ask someone else to do something you're not willing to do yourself.

That's the topic I couldn't help but notice 'BKK prepares for summer storms'.

'...I can't help but notice that the majority of farangs living here, although not all, do sign up for the full Thailand dream. The Thai ex-bargirl wife, the babies when the farang is already middle-aged and has little money, no knowledge of the Thai language and living out in the sticks of Isaan.

I live on the east-coast of Phuket in a predominantly Muslim counrtryside area which is breathtakingly quiet. I have a farang partner of more than twenty-years, although technically we're not married. I am not here for the bargirls, sex with prostitutes or any other illegal activity. I love the food, the climate, the enviable lifestyle that costs pennies and most, but not all, Thai people. (I choose my Thai friends much as I would any other nationality. All are not welcome in my life.)

I have been coming here twice-a-year for holidays for 10-years and have lived in Thailand full-time for five-years, so I'm not a newbie.

It does seem to me that many problems, dissatisfaction with Thailand or the Thais and the sniping and bitching that goes on is because people don't build their new life here on a solid base.

If I had come here with limited funds, married a Thai prostitute and had a baby with her and gone off to rent somewhere in Isaan, I too would be ready to go home by now, just as much as my Thai wife would probably be ready to get back to the bright lights and fun of Walking Street-Pattaya, Soi Bangla-Phuket or Patpong-Bangkok.

As it is, I can't GO home, because I'm already there'.

Oops! and here I was thinking he should make an honest man of him.It's raining here in Phichit with evening thundershowers predicted yet again. Just magical! Long may it rain.

My wifes family lives in Sahmut Prakan on the outskirts of Bangkok.The drains there would not cope with prolonged rain, they have been stagnant for years, the water is black , The government should concentrate on cleaning them or servicing them , if they do not i can see an out brake of many water born deceases, Maybe that should be there priority not worrying about advertising boards.
