Contract Phone For Farangs

Featured Replies

Hi All

i notice all the networks AIS,DTAC,TRUE are doing the iphone 4 on split payments i.e. around 2.5k per month for the phone instead of 27k if you bank with kasikorn and a few other banks

can farangs take out these contract offers ? or do we have to drag tilak along

I'm not sure, I reviewed what terms I could find on-line and saw nothing about credit check, eligibility, etc. I suspect it may be like everything here; technically only allowed with a work-permit but some service providers or even individual offices (trying to make their monthly bonus) might allow it.

I did notice that in all iPhone financing schemes you are required to take a data plan, which in the case of AIS and DTAC would be 2G only (AIS do have good 3G coverage in Chiang Mai). True have 3G in metro-Bangkok and a few other areas. Just make sure you are happy with the entire package. IMO having a smartphone with only 2G (excepting WiFi obviously) is a bit like having a car in which you can only use first gear.

I've checked it out as well, and the catch is you have to have a credit card through a Thai bank, and that's the amount they charge your card every month. It's not like they send you a bill like in the US, you have to have the card, and then incrementally charge you each month.

Why bother with the iphone 4...Vertu have a shop in Siam Paragon.....of course if you cant afford it and have to make do with an iphone then good luck with the contract

emailed true.dtac & ais about it .. as you say a CC is needed.

Dtac Replied

Dear Sir,

Please kindly be informed that you can buy Iphone 4 from Dtac with the 10 months installment plan

at 0% of interest rate at any branches of dtac service hall. Necessarily, we allow customers making an

installment plan by using only credit card from the co-campaign banks such as Kasikorn bank. However,

having only bank account is not allowed to make an installment plan for Iphone4.

Should you have further inquiry, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,

E-Service Unit
