Kebabs (Schwarmas), Indian Food, Etc?

Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me where I can buy good kebabs, hummus, or Indian food in Bangkok?

I really miss middle eastern food and haven't seen any yet in Bangkok.

I really appreciate replies from anyone that knows of any food remotely related to middle eastern or Indian

Go the 'The Arab Quarter' betwen Soi 3 and Soi 5 on Sukhumvit for the Arab food.

For Indian food, where the Indians eat, go to Chakrapetch Road, Wang Burapha. This area is called "Little India"It is at the very end of Chinatown .There are many Indian restaurants between the Chakrapetch Road and the Klong behind, of differing qualities and prices. From the very cheap to the expensive. Very rarely ,will you find Farang eating there.

Should you like cooking your own Indian, the best shop for ALL the ingredients,you will need,which are all imported from India you need, is, Nisa Sachdev, 329 Soi Protoleck Lek , Off Chakrapetch road. This very little soi is next to the new Indian Emporium ( multi storey), on the opposite side of the road to the restaurants. At the mouth of the Soi ,at lunch time, an Indian family cook lovely Samosas. Yum ,Yum.

I found the schwarmas and their sauces in and around soi 3 to be insipid. The kebabs dry and expensive.

Don't know about Little India.

I ate kebab in a shop in Ramkhamhaeng, not too far from the mall Bang Kapi, that’s owned by a foreigner and his Thai wife. It was fantastic and they put on some amazing sauces like mint yoghurt , garlic sauce and a hot chilli sauce that smelt and tasted amazing, and you can buy hummus to dip your kebab in. And, I think they also sell Indian and Thai food as well as kebabs.

I can’t remember exactly what soi it was on but it shouldn’t be too far from you. I will definitely go there again soon and I’ll give you the directions.

I forgot to mention the restaurant's name, it is called "the red onion" .. Definitely a must try restaurant if you are in Ramkamhaeng area..

Sorry, I wanted to give you the direction earlier but I was busy these days. You can find The Red Onion shop in Summakorn village, Ramkhamhaeng 110.

Go straight into the village about 500 metres or so until you come to a lake with a childrens playground. The shop is opposite the lake and the last building on the end.

Oh yea, and they have some really good Indian food as well. I tried the chicken madras they had there yesterday and it was one of the best I've eaten.

I got you their phone number as well- 089 510 2666. It might be best if you call them before you go to make your order because they get very busy.

Ramkhamhaeng 110, Summakorn village is right down the road from where I live, and I know the area quite well. I will go there tonight to try it out, and call them first to order the madras. I love chicken madras and haven't eaten it in so long. I can't wait.

You were right Su, the sauces they put on the kebabs are very delicious. I had the chicken tikka madras as well, with pilau rice and a naan bread, and it was very good. Just like eating an Indian from a good restaurant in the UK. My wife also had the fried chicken and cashew nuts and that was also very good.

The place is in a very good location next to the lake and there are quite a few foreigners drinking a few beers a long with their kebabs and indian food socialising, so it's a good place to meet other people.

I'm going there tonight to try the fish and chips and maybe take home with me a big tub of their hummus and pita bread.

there is now a Beirut Restaurant in the basement of the Ploenchit Center near the entrance to Villa market...the food's OK but what can you expect in BKK?...they offer a nan type bread instead of arabic bread which looks like an arabic bread that I tried to make at home...someone really oughta open an arabic bakery in BKK with fresh bread and lovely arabic sweets; baklava, etc...they'd do a roaring business...

anyone notice the shwarma stall at the entrance to NEP?, the wife got me a chicken and a lamb (!) that I ate the next day... she was out with the family at the soi Nana food stalls and I had already

eaten at the restaurant above...not bad as leftovers...

right now I'm in HCM trying to get a flight out to the north central coastal provinces and there have been cancelled flights do to typhoons...last night I ate at a turkish/mid east place across from the Sheraton front entrance and the hummous was the best that I've had since Jeddah...but the tabbouleh was a failure (with green pepper and onions???, get outta here) and the chicken iskender was an inedible mishmash...no decent bread either...but not bad for the hummous alone...

For some reason,Suraj has made , I think 5 posts ,ALL promoting one (1) restaurant,Each one stating the name and address Of that specific restaurant.Why ? What barrow is he pushing?..Soi 3 is solely for Middle Eastern food. Little India caters for authentic Indian food .It caters to a 99.99% Indian clientele.Rarely will you see a farang eating there. So, prices are from the cheap ,Up .Quality , the same.There would be about 20 restaurants in an area about 100 metres by 60 metres. Many are located in Small lanes, not really Sois, as they are too short. Fun to explore.
