Moving Sisaket To Chiang Mai, Best Option ?

Hi guys, i'm in Khunhan right now (a small city near Sisaket) and i will have to go to Chiang Mai for a year and i need to take some things from my current appartement :

- a plasma TV 42"

- a big table (dismantable)

So, what should i do ? do you think i can go by bus and put all this in it ? i dont mind paying more than the price for that kind of service btw.

Some thai friend told me that i will probably have to take the train if i want keep everything, and that i would need to go to BKK first and then go to CM ... would be a 25 hours journey i would like to avoid lol.

I think you can forget the bus. Train is an option, and you can change to CM line in Khorat.

Rent a private transport (pick up) will be next choice, but more expensive? :D

Bergen, the change to the Northern line would be in Ayuttaya.

Sorry, yes of course I was getting it mixed up with the Nong Khai line. :jap:

If I were in your situation, I'd hire a friend with a truck who needs to make a quick buck and pay him 1,000b plus gas and food. It's faster, safer for your stuff, helps a friend out and it's a fun drive crossing Nam Nao National Park.

The thought of trying to take a table and expensive TV on a train gives me a headache. :blink:

I agree with the post above, but another option would be to send the goods by truck - there is a good truck service from Sisaket, their depot is in the first parade of shops on the right you come across when taking the Khu Khan road into Sisaket, last shops. Then you could catch the train or bus yourself.

I've only received parcels thru the service so cannot be precise about price. However, I don't think it will be expensive as most shops, etc. in Sisaket use it. I use it to receive machine parts from various parts of Thailand and generally, it is very efficient, with next day delivery to the depot.

      This one reminds me... Back in the day, maybe 25 years ago, I was sitting at a certain Mall.... waiting for my pizza for way over an hour. Pulled out the mobile phone I just bought and called the delivery number of the restaurant, then ordered same pizza. At the end I told them I wasn't home but need to send it to a different address... their shop at the Mall, complete with table number. I got a "could you please wait a moment"... phone rang in the kitchen... a head popped out of the kitchen looking at me for a moment, then ran back in, and phone operator said pizza will be with me within 10 minutes. It was. Along with manager's apology, and bill waived. Not sure it was worth a wait but it was surely memorable moment...

      I have a TIN and have claimed back withholding tax on savings accounts for years, so thanks for confirming that it can be done on term deposits as well. Not sure what remitted income has to do with this, as my money is in Thailand for years already, and I live here on a retirement extension. The Japanese bond has risk status 3, which I think is very low. Not interested in offshore investments, because then remitted income will come in play.

      'Americans are actually quite poor.', you say. I would disagree. It's true that there were 36.8 million Americans living in poverty in 2023. That's out of 345 million people. 36.8 million is a large number, yes, but many, many more Americans--over 300 million--are not living in poverty, they are not 'quite poor'. As I said in an earlier post, the figure I found most interesting was the number of millionaires. One site said 24.5 million, another 23.7 million. With either figure, that's a lot, too. I actually think 24.5 million is way too low. These days, it doesn't take much to hit a million dollars in assets in the US--you can come close with mostly just two things. 1. Have Greatest Generation parents. They worked hard, were thrifty, saved, and many passed along money and/or real estate to their children. This happened with a number of people I know. 2. Be a USA home owner. Lots of homes in the US, in lots of places, have appreciated in value to at least half a million dollars or more. The average price of a home where I used to live in the US is now over $600,000. My siblings and all my US friends are homeowners, and each home I know of is probably worth at least $400,000 to $500,000, or more. Combine that home value with inherited money and many Baby Boomers, not to mention others, are close to a million already--without even throwing in inherited money from a spouse's parents, 401k money, cars, furnishings, stocks, mutual funds, and other investments. Someone recently said on a thread something to the effect that a million dollars in assets isn't that special these days and they are right--it no longer is. And, the number of millionaires in the US is bound to grow as Baby Boomers pass along not only their wealth, but the wealth they inherited from their Greatest Generation parents, to their children.

      help needed for configuring Prime H370 Plus for NVMe RAID

      I need help for configuring my system please, I have been running in circles. Situation: I have a ASUS PRIME H370 Plus motherboard (i7-8700k) with a connected SATA SSD and Windows 10 Pro installed. Settings in BIOS are: - PCH Storage setting SATA controller enabled - PCH Storage setting SATA mode AHCI - SATA SSD on SATA port #3 Boots with CSM disabled, Intel RST was running in Windows. What I want to do: - install 2x NVMe SSD Samsung mzvlq512hblu-000h1 (they are blank, unformatted) - mount as RAID 1 - transfer (clone) Windows 10 onto RAID volume - set RAID volume as boot disk Trying to do that, I have been running into trouble: - after I installed the 2 NVMe on the motherboard, the computer booted, but RST stopped working. I reinstalled RST with the latest version, but then it refuses to start, claiming "unsupported platform". - at that point, I could see both NVMe in BIOS listed under "NVMe device configuration" - I activated Intel RAID optane in PCH storage settings, PCH Storage setting SATA mode Intel RST RAID premium optane, PCH Storage setting M2_1 controlled by RST, PCH Storage setting M2_2 controlled by RST - boot from m2 appeared in boot options, but I still chose to boot from the existing boot disk - with these settings, the PC bluescreened - Secure boot setting had always been on "other OS", I activated CSM and then was able to boot normally as before - in Windows storage manager, both NVMe disks are recognized, visible and formattable - Intel RST still doesn't work - Going back into the BIOS, I thought I would now try to make a RAID 1 volume. - In the RAID configuration, only ONE NVMe disk is available for RAID, so I could not make a RAID volume - Under "NVMe device configuration" it now says "No NVMe devices found" Can someone please help me or point me to some documentation detailing the steps I need to take? I imagine I'm not the only one who tried to do that.

      if you are referring to a normal fixed account then you can reclaim like any other withheld interest - ie you need to register for a TIN and apply for a refund. In the current environment that may raise other questions regarding remitted income depending on your residency status....... Depends on your risk status and what's available to you depending on many factors - IE $USD and £GBP rates offshore are generally higher (not following Euro so won't comment).

I am of the opinion that if he manages to get installed in the WH again there will be a quiet palace coup, where the likes of those behind the scenes (such as whoever/whatever is funding the corruption of the US Supreme Court) will actually be running things while DT lives out his years on his golf course. The GOP has done this before, starting with Reagan (ok, arguably with Eisenhower) then HW, then W, but I think this time it will be more contentious and daring. This is the real threat in this election. Anticipating a replay of 2000, where SCOTUS picks the president, and we know who that will be. As I've been saying in here, getting the votes is only half the issue.

      As the world turns, there are anatomically perfect (American) men who don't give a hoot about the labeling. No questions asked and no time for smooching, they just "do" it, taking early lunch and seeking out what they couldn't get at home, then go home at the end of the day and make whoopies with their wife/gf. Speaking from experience as a gay man during my sexual heyday in So Cal circa early 2000, (not so coincidentally the setting for the TV series "Bored Housewives of Orange County") I had quite a few "friends with benefits" in this category...actually both JD and Tim (notice the first-name basis here) remind me of some of them (sigh.)

      The closest alternative is an 8 month fixed term at 1.8%, and which is taxed. I have always been told that withholding tax on term accounts can't be claimed back. Maybe someone can confirm if this is correct or not? In Japan, interests are still around 0%, so 2% is not such a bad deal imo.....if that actually is what I will get at the end. You have any suggestions for a more favorable option?
