I honestly think this guy deserves his own thread at the moment. One of the on;y players that nearly everyone respects and likes.

Paul Scholes: What they said about a Manchester United great

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has announced his retirement from football.

The Reds maestro has been one of the most respected players in world football over the past 15 years - here's what some of the fellow world greats have said about him.

"Good enough to play for Brazil. I love to watch Scholes, to see him pass, the boy with the red hair and the red shirt." Socrates

"My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation." Zinedine Zidane

"Paul Scholes would have been one of my first choices for putting together a great team – that goes to show how highly I have always rated him. An all-round midfielder who possesses quality and character in abundance." Marcello Lippi

"I tell anyone who asks me – Scholes is the best English player." Laurent Blanc

"Many great players have worn the shirt of Manchester United. Players I worshipped, then lost with my youth in Munich. Players like Denis Law and George Best who I enjoyed so much as team-mates and now, finally, players I have watched closely in the Alex Ferguson era. And in so many ways Scholes is my favourite." Sir Bobby Charlton

"In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen — the most complete — is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything." Xavi

"The BEST player of his generation #fact loved every minute of playing football with him. #legend." Rio Ferdinand on Twitter on Tuesday morning.

Great career and a great player.

Will be missed by most, although certainly not his tackling.

Great player, I think he has got it right though.

Why belittle youself with future cameo roles, better to finish on a high with United than go to Bolton or Wigan for a couple more years

Always behaved himself throughout his career, never in the papers for the wrong reasons, well except for his tough tackling , but no kiss and tell tales.

Will he go into management?

I wish him the very best of luck, whatever he does he will do it well

Good post TP, looks like he has got a coaching job at United for next season.

A great career, and a professional role model - not likely to appear on Twatter.

Hopefully yes, although i don't think any of us would have predicted for Giggs to get embroiled in on the nonsense he has, so who really ever knows what is going on in these guys private lives. Still, if it's legal and if it's not detrimental to the club or to their performances, who really cares, apart from tabloid readers?

Yes a great career and one of the last of a generation, in which it meant something to stay loyal to a club and to a manager. Won't be many like him in the future, in so many ways. Will be sorely missed. Hope he stays around in some capacity, although not sure what would suit him best. He is an introvert so not sure if managing will be his thing. Coaching perhaps a better fit. Anyway, whatever he does do, hope his influence and attitude is there to rub off on the new guys.

one of the few professional footballers to never have an agent as far as i know. used to just turn up at contract negotiations with his accountant and say 'where do i sign?'. rare in this day and age.

Can we take it that he won't be coaching how to tackle :D

aye. very good player and all that but he's got away with bloody murder throughout his career on account of being ginger and unassuming.

Possibly so, but don't you think it only fair that people so blighted with being born ginger be given special compassionate treatment to try and make up for their daily ordeal?

(Our thoughts are with you smokie - assume you being Scottish are also a sufferer)

Wasn't saying they didn't have the capacity to be narky or aggressive, was saying that perhaps they deserve a bit more leeway in life, considering their awful "disability".

i can't believe what i'm reading! At the very least i thought i deservered the respect of fellow members yet i find the colour of my barnet being ridiculed by members of two threads that i have been so supportive of over the last couple of years.

What next?.....Carrot head jokes :crying:

You will remember when they had Butt in midfield aswell. And, just when you thought Fergusan had masterminded an entire ginger academy and nothing could be worse.....you check out the touchline and theres a thing warming up with a Utd shirt on calling itself Luke Chadwick. :whistling:

Was that the Chuck Norris who played inside left for Accrington Stanley - or are you thinking of another one ?

Best wishes to Scholes - a true professional and a credit to his club.

I don't like seeing unnecessary suffering so I guess i'm in, but i want to state from the get-go that when it comes to applying of said hair product, i'll only go as far as the head and the eye-brows. The rest of you guys can fight it out for who's doing armpits, nasal hair, chest hair, pubes, etc.

Think alfredo will be the person to do the rest, although he's claiming that carmine is a strawberry blond, awwwww, bless.

Here's a ginger like question for everyone.....................

How come so many gingers all seem to play in the midfield? Scholes. Butt, Strachen, Parlour (also had a face like a baboons arse) and others whose names slip me for the mo...Is cthere something in ginger genes that says thou shalt not be a goalkeeper.

I believeso.

Look at that midfield!!!! Thats got to be one of the most niggly agressive units you'll see which backs up my long held belief that you should never be without a ginger in the midfield. They'll run around all day snapping at ankles, studs up, and, not without a little "turn a blind eye" from a sympathetic ref.
