PHOENIX (BNO NEWS) -- An unknown number of US Airways flights were grounded on Friday evening when a power outage knocked down the airline's computer systems, a spokeswoman said.

The outage began at around 7.30 p.m. ET after a power outage affected the airline's data centers in Phoenix, Arizona, a spokeswoman said. Several hours later, at 9.45 p.m. ET, she said the outage had been resolved.

"[Our website] usairways.com and our airport computer systems are back online and we are working to restore operational order following the systems outage," the spokeswoman said. "Flights throughout the US Airways system may continue to be delayed."

The spokeswoman, who had no details on the number of flights affected, encouraged its customers to check their flight status before traveling to the airport. She said customers should check usairways.com or call the Reservations desk at 1-800-428-4322.

Madison Creehan was the first person to mention the system outage on Twitter. "[The] US Airways system is down. 45 minutes to take-off with no boarding pass. [Great]," she wrote. Creehan later added that she was able to board the aircraft nine minutes before take-off.

Jim Sciutto, a senior foreign correspondent for ABC News, was also impacted by the outage. "[uS Airways] computer system down. [Ronald Reagan National Airport] is a mess plus a taste of life when computers crash," he said on Twitter. Sciutto was able to board his flight within an hour after pilots received permission to take off by e-mail.

Other airlines were not affected by the outage.
