I’m tying to explain to my TG about ‘red tape’ (Bureaucracy) in Thailand but can’t find the Thai word/s for it, help please?

The reason behind it is that I have started a business here, changed the registered address of the company and am applying for a 1 year B visa and work permit. I have signed and company stamped over 500 bits of paper, I’ve even had to sign copies of copies, and supplied enough photos of various sizes to fill an average size album. It’s all being done by a lawyer and I’m now on first name terms with his courier!

Oh yes, two more questions; do they actually read/use all the papers and do they keep them all? If they do keep them all they must have giant warehouses chock o block full of paper, what a waste of everyone’s time and money, not to mention the number of trees slaughtered to supply all that paper! As they say…..TIT

Check out www.thai2english.com and type in red tape. Comes up with the phrase Neeranam suggested as well as the one I prefer which is ระเบียบราชการที่จุกจิกเกินไป

That website is great. I've been trying to purchase a similar piece of software. Now I don't need to bother. :o

P.S. That's spooky, we both joined this forum on the same day nearly two years ago...

This is Thailand and if you wanna run business here should to do it with the legaliy. I wonder why your TG not understand about our laws and regulations and if she is educated TG.She can tell you more about this not just let you criticize us by your narrow mind.

When I was in Farang countries I got many problems. Because They are not acept people in developing country. Then we ask from you a bit to be in our rules like all people in this country do.

Hope you are here { on my freedom Land that my ancestor donated all their soul to set this country} and respect us MORE!!

Hey, orchidexpert, didn't you know that complaining is the most common habit of farangs in Thailand? Nothing to worry about.. :o

Have you put your comments in the wrong topic? I only wanted to know how to explain about red tape to my TG, where did the 'run a business' bit come from? I don't recall saying anything about running a business. You may not like it or agree with it but this country is slowly drowning in red tape, why make it easier when you can make it difficult :o

In my book respect has to earned, demanding or ordering people to respect you doesn't work sunshine.

Whoops made a boo boo, I apologise. The fact remains that red tape is OTT here, it takes up so much of people's time that the country suffers for it. Never mind. Maybe the reason why I've had to sign so many things is because I AM trying to do it legally.

For those that are interested I was told that yes they do use all the bits of paper and yes they do have warehouses full of bits of paper. I was also told that a farang company wanted to bring the issue into the 21st century and computerise it, they didn't get the job because they didn't grease the right palms. That comes from a source that should know. Make of it what you will Orchidexpert.

I’ve just though of something that happened to me about 3 years ago. My then g/f and I decided to drive to Vientiane via Nong Khai, no problem going out the Thai side but 3 hours, visiting 15 different departments, 3000bt and an interview with the border crossing head honcho later we were allowed to go onto Vientiane. Another case of red tape gone mad….and it wasn’t Thailand this time.
