Startling Visa / Work Permit Regulations

Featured Replies

In May 2011, my thai employer goes to the Labour Dept in BKK to extend my work permit of 1 year under presentation of my 1 year non immigrant B multientry visa but is refused because the visa expires same date as WP. I travel to KL in order to get non B multi and ... guess what ? KL refuses because WP expires same date. Doesn't it sound like the dog spinning around trying to bite its tail ??

During the past 5 years, I got the non b visa multientry every year exactly in the same way excepted that I was in my own Country. In KL, I submitted all the required documentation and they gave me only 3 months.

My question now is: if I travel to KL again after 3 months, will I get the non b multientry even if my WP expires in 3 months ?

Is Penang a better choice ? Anyone who has good advice is very much welcomed, thank you

Work permit should have nothing to do with visa anymore in my understanding - they are not tied together. Are you sure your employer knows how to do and did not ask for it to match your visa? KL and most local Consulates do not normally issue multi entry visas unless work permit is valid for at least 8 months or so as those working are expected to obtain one year extensions of stay from Immigration. Some can not do, expect you are among them, so if you now obtain the one year work permit expect KL or Penang can issue next time. If only a 3 month work permit suspect you will have problems again.
