Anti-Malaria Pills: Malarone

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am looking to buy anti-Malaria pills, Malarone to be more exact. Was wondering how could I obtain the medicine here in Thailand? Do I need a doctor's prescription or can I just go into any pharmacy and buy? Also, if i do need a prescription, which hospital do you recommend going to?

Thank you for your help

Why do you need to take anti Malaria drugs ? I've been here nearly 6 years and never taken any. I don't know of any person who takes them, Thai or Farang.

In Thailand the brand name is Malaril, and it is a controlled drug not sold OTC

And, it is not the drug if choice for malaria treatment in this part of the world

And malaria prophylaxis is almost never indicated here, contrary to what some travel health websites will say.

Same applies to Cambodia, Burma and Laos

Thank you guys, I need the medication for a trip I'm planning, somewhere along the China-Burma border. I went there a few years ago, contacted malaria and almost died; i wanna come prepared this time.

Malarone (Malaril) was the drug they used to treat me back then, and it did the job quite well. Which place do you recommend going to in order to get a prescription?
