Thai Keyboard

Featured Replies

Just returned from LoS with much nam plick and a keyboard with Thai lettering, my wife thought she could just plug it into my laptop (XP) and would be able to type away.

Wrong!

It was bought new but no software...any ideas how we can utilise it correctly?...do I have to download any Microsoft software to utilise Thai script?

Have you followed the steps outlined in the pinned topic that appears at the top of the list of topics on this subforum? I would have answered, 'No!' to the rider', but perhaps there is something funny because you're not using the main keyboard.

Richard.

Did you install the Asian language pack when you installed XP? In other words can you type Thai with the laptops' keyboard now?

sorry to butt in...how come some of the web pages, the thai character can't display

correctly.Pls helps.Thanks

Perhaps your browser default is not Thai enconding. Just go to "View" "Character Encoding" and select Thai to see if that helps.

Hi everyone,

I've just bought the Thai language stickers for my keyboard. I want to type Thai and have tried installing the Thai language pack as per the instructions pinned in the forum, however i cannot complete the process because i don't have a windows XP CD. Is there anywhere online where I can download the required files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Were you instructed to insert such a CD? I wasn't and didn't need to when I enabled the use of a Thai keyboard on Windows XP. If you have XP, the files are probably already on your machine in some form or other.

Installing the Asian language pack is an option when installing Windows XP and necessary to use the Thai language (fonts). It is an additional ~200MB. This is the step he probably forgot when it was originally installed and the original XP CD is necessary to install the pack at a later time.

I've had this problem too and remains unsolved. My computer was bought with XP already loaded onto the machine. It didn't come with a CD (I believe this is standard practise now from many shops) so i too cannot get any further than the instructions to "Insert CD".

I, too, have pre-installed Windows XP, but did not need a CD to activate Thai on my PC.

Thailand-UK has an idiot's guide for activation of Thai on a Windows XP PC. Go to Thai fonts > good news for Windows XP users.

Scouse.

The critical point is that Thai is not an 'East Asian' language. That basically means one that used Chinese characters; I am not sure whether the Korean hangul are included. Thai comes in the same enabling group as Arabic, Hebrew and Devanagari.

The Thailand-UK guide differs in that it contains pictures, and makes it clearer that Thai is not an 'East Asian' language.

How grave is the lack if you can't enable Thai? I believe keyboard definitions can be done oneself, though I don't know that the free kit from Microsoft is complete. From the point of view of rendering, do tone marks not appear properly, or is it just a slightly inferior rendering of words like น้ำ?

Go to website www.nectec.or.th

Down lond Thai fonts free from there.

You can type Thai language by switch your key board.

If you can't, means conflict in your W.XP program.

Normally, you can upgrade and add Thai language from many Thai websites.

Hope you can do and enjoy it. :o

Tried looking on nectec website but no luck, does anyone have an exact link. Thailand UK has manual instructions but they only apply to older versions on windows (not XP)

Myabe a better idea would be to just buy a cheap copy on the windows XP CD?

Hi Lambous,

Thailand-UK does contain instructions for XP. Go to Thai fonts > good news for XP users.

Unfortunately after following the new set on instructions I came to a new dead end. I receive a message stating "Windows cannot copy the Thai Keyboard layout" Very strange indeed. It seems my computer is being very stubbory. I might have to buy the CD after all. I appreciate your help anywayz

Might I suggest you make your way to the Computer Plaza/Icon Centre on the northeastern corner of the moat? All your problems will be solved for 120bt :o
