300K Resistors For Sale At Pantip?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to install a custom rom on my samsung galaxy s, but in order for it to enter download mode I need either a custom made usb jig or I can make my own with 3 300k resistors. Where can I buy these?

If I can can buy most simple electronic components from 3 outlets here in Ban Dung, Udon Thani (the middle of the rice paddies) you should just be a short walk to anywhere in BKK. Try your local TV repair man.

There is a Radio Shack (?) outlet in Amaron Plaza (Chit Lom BTS).

Come in off the skywalk, and turn left by the pharamasy (first left), head towards the end of that section.  On your left will be a Radio Shack (sort of) store.  They carry many Radio Shack parts, including electronic components.

They do seem to keep odd hours though.

I have a Jig, but have never had to use it. (I bought two more, but am not returning with those until next month.) Can you share any details re: your specific model and android rev.?

Which ROM are you thinking about? Make sure you review all the details of the ROM. I've flashed several Gingerbread ROMs, including CM7, and had many issues: very poor batery erpformance, no WiFi, no incoming calls, can't hang up calls, crappy GPS, and a few more issues, so back to a 2.2 custom ROM (Paragon RC6) for me. Waiting for a I897UCKF1/2.3.3 version. Samsung/AT&T just leaked this on Friday.

Granted I have the Captivate version, but I can get in to download mode via... power off, battery pull, remove SIM, remove uSD card, start ODIN, reinsert battery, hold down volume up and volume down. insert USB cable. Or, using the 3-button method, hold volume up, hold volume down, press power (evidently this is volume down, home and power on your model, see below).

Download Mode

This mode is mainly used to install new ROM or custom ROM firmwares.

To enter download mode, turn off the phone and when completly turned off, you hold the Volume Down + Home + Power

If it was done properly you should see a screen with a big yellow triangle and the Android robot working on construction in less than 1 second.

How to get into recovery or download mode

Pressing Power for at least 8 seconds will reboot the Phone.

[edit] Recover & Download Mode Warning

There have been many reports about a problematic batch of Galaxy S phones that are not able to reach recovery/download mode. If you are going to flash / change roms / Do any customization - Make sure you can reach these modes before doing ANYTHING.

Update A Fix is available to fix the broken SPL problem causing the 3 button disabled on some phones.

Check out the topic for details; How to install the Download/Recovery Mode fix (3 Button Disabled SPL fix) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201

I will go check it out today, thanks!

I'm not sure what the important things to include here are but I have:

GT-i9000 running Froyo.DXJPE

I plan to install Darky's Rom. The main thing that has motivated me to do this is the phone has a lag/hanging issue that requires it to be rooted to be fixed. Also a sweet alternative theme and the promise of other cool features is appealing.

I've tried time and again to enter download mode and it hasn't worked. So I've figured I need a jig of some sort.

Thanks for your advice.

I had trouble finding some resistors I needed for my motorbike. I ended up getting them on ebay. Arrived in a few days from Hong Kong.

I was able to bypass the need for both resistors and a jig by using the one click root. That enabled download mode and from there I flashed gingerbread and then darkysrom. I may have been taking a risk though of the phone bricking and me not being able to get it out. But all is well!

The Galaxy S variants are nearly impossible to brick, easier to 'clay' (from which it is simple to recover).

Which version did you flash? 10.1?

How is your battery performance? Call quality? Wifi working? How is GPS, lock time, accuracy? Do you use 3G? If so, how is the DL speed, same as before? Did you back-up and restore your apps and data without issues?

I guess that ROM may be based on an official Samsung release so in theory it should be proven and reliable.

Nattapong in Ban Mo, or in Zeer Rangsit, to keep it simple.

Dozens of shops in Ban Mo carry components, but you have to search.

A place called Wesco in Ladprao soi 1 also has TONS of stuff - but you had better speak at least SOME Thai.

Yes 10.1

Battery performance seems to possibly be better, but I have no actual way to test this out. Call quality and wifi are the same. GPS is working fine, though I don't know about the exacts of that either. I don't use 3g. I did a completely fresh install and formatted before hand.

Basically, I've only noticed two issues which is when I unlock my screen maybe 1/20 times the home screen is messed up and I need to go to a different home screen and back to fix it. I'm not sure if that is the ROMs fault or the widgets / theme I'm using. The second issue is semi large and I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do about it. Swype doesn't have Thai in darky's rom... other thai keyboards work fine though. Everything else is very fast and actually a lot better than before. I had major lag issues with my phone and Friday night almost lost the opportunity to get a girl's phone number as my phone was freezing up. Those issues are totally gone. Though you just need to root to fix that issue. Everything is clean, fast and I'm very impressed. This is my first ever rooting so I really enjoyed making my phone look very cool.
