I haven't seen Domino yet. It's gotten pretty bad reviews but Keira Knightley has gotten decent props. She's gotten good reviews for the new version of "Pride & Prejudice", too.

I do want to see The Constant Gardener as Ralph Fiennes as gotten good reviews, and I like Rachel Weisz. She is brilliant I think. (See "Confidence", "Enemy at the Gates", "The Shape of Things", "About a Boy", "Mummies", "Runaway Jury".)

Speaking of Ralph Fiennes, he makes an interesting appearance in the new Harry Potter film. :o

I didn't realize Domino Harvey , the subject of the film "Domino",was Laurence Harvey's daughter!

I don´t like Keira Knightley ... I can believe she´d good reviews for pride & prejudice...The whole film is just a waste (time, money...)...I wonder if the guy who wrote the script read the book... and he did...I wonder if he understood anything :o

I hope she did not get so good reviews as a Guinivere in King Arthur...

Fighting half naked against guys during roman empire...

So strong...I wonder if she fell into Panoramix magic potion as a child...( she is so thin that no way for her to carry a heavy sword and left alone to be so good at archery)...

So Keira Knightley is in Domino? Well then I will wait for a boring sunday afternoon...to play something in my DVD...

Haha.

I will agree that the movie King Arthur was very much hollywood, however, Celts and the similar groups in Britain as well as Gaul fought naked on many occasion. They wore nothing but a torque around their necks and carryied their weapons into battle. Google The Dying Gaul and you should find a famous Roman sculpture that was made to honor the bravery of Rome's enemy, something they never did for any of the other enemies they had. They did paint themselves with a blue dye before battle as well. When the Roman legions first fought Gauls they ran in fear because these people came running ar them naked, painted blue, and screaming. The Romans thought them to be demons from Hades. As matter of fact the Romans never could conquer all of Britain and the built Hadrian's Wall to keep the Picts from Scotland out and they never took Ireland.

As for women, they fought along side the men. Celtic culture was matriarchal and women had no problem going to war. When Rome first invaded the Bristish Isles their main opponent was the Celts led by Queen Boudicca ( Boadicea ). When I say led I mean she was in the front lines with sword in hand.

One writen Roman account of the Celts love of fighting and the role women played was this.."A whole troop of foreigners would not be able to withstand a single one if he called to his assistance his wife, who is usually very strong."

So, yes there was much about the movie that was hollywood, but there was also much that was at least based in fact. The batlle at the end of the movie was the Battle of Badon Hill. Many of the characters in the movie were real life people like Germanus and Pelagius. You can read about both of these in Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People. Pelagius was condemned as a heretic and killed for what he taught.

Hi thaibebop...I knew that, I knew that women used to fight along side the men and also knew about the outfit they used to wear...

My point was that in that battle the only woman is Keira Knightley...She is half naked and weight 40 kg...I am not sure but I doubt that the women on those times weight 40 kg...

I would have agree if more women show at the last battle...and everyhting was a bit more real...but not...Keira Knightly with her 40 kg and her dreadful interpretation has to be the only girl, the bravest, the coolest, the prettiest...

Princess Leiya was a real warrior...but Keira...

Actually the best part in Pirates of the Caribbean movie is when Barbarosa slap her in the face and tell her to shut up!...(I know this sentence has nothing to do with King Arthur)

Well, she wasn't the only woman. The Saxon Lt. was butchered by several women. Now, I am not a huge fan of hers, so I am not defending her in any way, your opinion is yours. Having said that, I think you're jealous. Her acting isn't that bad, I should know for in another life I trained for that job. I think you might enjoy movies more if you stopped caring so much about the actors. Just a helpful hint.

HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT BEBOP...

IF YOU DON´T HAVE GOOD ACTORS YOU DON´T HAVE GOOD FILM

dON´T YOU THINK?

ACTORS INTERPRETATION IS WHAT MAKE YOU CRY, LAUGH, FEEL FEAR...

MAYBE i AM JEALOUS... but look... I love watching films i get very upset when nowadays dialogues and good interpretation are not so important anymore...only pretty girls half naked...fights...FX....

:D

and they are ruining my favourites book and comic characters :o

She wasn't bad in either of these movies. BTW, I am not going to see P&P, Austine makes me gag! :D

The whole half naked thing isn't new and in our case it's you (female) complaining about another female. I could easily make the same arguement for Troy. That was a whole lotta man flesh in that flick! Besides, Hollywood has always gotten the pretty ones to act. The real problem here isn't the actors, most of them just do what their told, it's the writers and the producers and some directors. They are the ones that can really ruin a movie.

agree... :D

only I have to add that i didn´t enjoy half naked men in troy because i was more interested in the film itself...

Has anyone seen last woody allen movie "Match point"?

Opens LA/NY 28 Dec (for Oscar consideration?) with a wider opening in January, 2006.

People who've seen it (festivals?) say it's his best movie ever. Filmed entirely in Britain, and he's not in it

Posted (edited)

When Woody Allen's on form he makes some great movies, I look forward to seeing this one. :D

Scarlett Johansson too, I think I fell in love with her in 'Lost in Translation'. :o

Big fan of Scarlett Johansson as well Maddy. Great flic too, lost in trans.

Anyone mentioned Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as yet? (sorry, bit late on the scene here) Prob not 'academy award' material but I thought Robert Downey Jr was absolutely brilliant (as always really) the writing and directing as well. Susrprise of all surprises was Val Kilmer (can't stand him usually) but big kudos on this one.

Btw, the main lady lead as well (can't recall her name but outstanding)

Steven Spielberg's new film, "Munich", has it's opening on 23 Dec. No one has seen it yet, but it is in the top 10 lists, in some cases number 1, from many critics.

Terrence Mallick's film, "The New World" opens on 25 Dec and Colin Farrell is getting some buzz for his role as John Smith.

saw Aeon Flux.. nice! recommended

This movie is playing at the Apex - Scala (Siam Sq.) where it is advertised (as of 5 Dec) on the marquee as "Aeon Fluk". :D I guess they ran out of "X"es, and figured a "K" was close enough.

It looks like a fun movie, but I'm guessing Charlize Theron won't be getting an Oscar nomination for this film. Many are expecting her to get nominated for her role in "North Country". Hopefully "Aeon Flux" isn't her "Snow Dogs"? :o

I use Firefox as a browser and you can imdb to the list of search engines in the search bar. So you can just enter a title, actor, crew, quote, etc. in the search bar, and you're there.

I use imdb quite a bit and must have missed that extension. Thanks for the info.

I thought King Kong was excellent. Well done to Peter Jackson for making it a tribute to the original but thrilling for modern audiences. The few critics who said the first hour was boring or unnecessary don't know what they're talking about. It was good to learn about the characters before the two hours of action got rolling. Good on Jackson for using one of the best actresses in the business to play the heroine.

And a big rasberry for the couple next to me at the Emporium cinema who discussed the movie non-stop for its entire 3-hour length. :o

Long and boring. 2nd hr was the best - 1st was sleepy material and last was well seen it before. :D I think Kong would have been better if they made it modern day. Apparently not doing that well either, lucky to be around in a few weeks time.

Save your dosh and see Chronicles of Narnia - much better than Kong. :o

Does anyone know when Syriana will be released here?

2 March 2006, I think. I plan to see it before then in the U.S.

Munich and Memoirs of a Geisha are due 26 January 2006

Walk the Line: 16 Feb 2006

Brokeback Mountain (6 Feb: House RCA) and The Constant Gardener are due in February.

This year seems to have less movies with quality I guess. I can hardly remember watching any "class" movies... Most movies released were of average standard ... or is it that I missed the good quality ones???

Team America! (<deleted> Yeah!)

By far the greatest film ever made. The songs are brilliant and the puppet sex is disgusting. The send up of the Film Actos Guild (FAG) is hilarious!

it didn't do a thing for me, i much prefered South Park, Bigger, Longer, Uncut. Althrough, "You had me at dicks <deleted> a**holes" has become a permenent part of my vocabulary :o

this year, Sin City just blew me away
