does anybody have any experience or recommendations regarding homecare for a senior who needs round the clock assistance,

ie: mobility assistance, home nursing, contacts with specialised doctors, etc??

could a senior have the same assistance here as they could have in europe?

I have been out there to visit a friend when he needed help but not hospitalization. I was impressed. Not only is it a retirement home with staff to assist you it is a place where you can just go to live there. It is on beautiful property with lots of hiking trails. I believe that once a week they have a van to take you into the city for those who arte still mobile and do not have transportation.

In my opinion well worth a look.

I agree, you can also find it under McKean Hospital. They have various levels of care.

Dok Kaew gardens is the only place in Chiang Mai with good senior care.

Anything else would have to be a private deal that you may be able to do yourself.

There is an organisation in Chiangmai which provides nursing assistants for a reasonable fee. My contact with it was 15 years ago, so I can't give any details, but I think your doctor should be able to tell you. My memory says it was organised by a Dr Pinit, but I may be wrong. If your doctor can't help, go to Maharaj Hospital, and ask questions... but you will have to be patient... you may get passed from hand to hand, but you'll get there in the end.

Having just gone thru care giving my father in my home for the last 5 years [actually a small handicapp friendly bungalow that I designed and built for him on our land], I can offer you some advise if you are considering doing it yourself. Pop was mobil up until the last 2 years and at that time, we hired caregivers, part time at first, but soon ended up being full time, 24/7 and managing Thai [semi professional] caregivers is a chore in it's self, altho we did it until his death in March of this year.

I did check out McKeanes [Dok Kaew] and they do have a nice set-up if your senior is mobil and their needs are not too complicated and if he has alz/dementia, they have a separate high security ward for them that I thought was a bit depressing.

As far as finding a geriatics specialists or even alz/dementia specialist here in CM or any where outside of BKK, you are on you own, as geriatics is not a speciality here. I became the gerriatics specialist in my father's case.....actually me and Dr Google. We delt with a handfull of general practitioners here that I could recomend and a couple of specialists as well. it was always a challenge with my limited Thai, Pop's zero Thai and my Thai wife's conversational English is ok, but medical English is lacking.

Caregiving my Pop in LOS was the most chalenging job that I have ever done and I wish you and your 'senior' the best of luck. You never said if it is a relative or friend and what his problems are.
