I've noticed a stereotype in the world including Thailand that foreigners attracted to Thailand have a higher than average degree of criminality.

I don't really know how true that is, but to keep this fun, thought it would be interesting to see the rate of former juvenile delinquency among the members here.

Because, as "they" say -- once a con, always a con!

Never had, or was in trouble with the police, really don’t know how I managed it, I was in with a bad crowed at one school, for a short time, about 3 years when 13, (our family moved a lot, father in the forces) I walked the finest line, acting a bad boy when I had to impress my mates, but managing to dodge any illegal stuff. Truth is I was nervous around authority, even school teachers, still am!..Ha ha.

Was never arrested when i was a kid but me and my brothers used to have the police knocking on are door a lot. Minor things like breaking windows in green houses or abandoned buildings. Nothing to bad.

The police used to be quite good around are area because they would just take you back to your house or go and talk with your parents. They must of known what my dad was like and knew his punishment was worse than being taken to the cop shop. We couldn't sit for a week due to his slaps. Still never stopped us getting into trouble though and he is a 6ft 4in builder.

In my opinion "once a con, always a con" is certainly not true.

I have seen and dealt with a lot of yougsters who commited crimes. What you see is that once they reach a certain age, soemwhere between 17 and about 23, most settle down and become model citizens. They just want a house, wife car and kids and to be a responsible husband and father.

But persons who continue with criminal activities after they turn 25 do indeed often turn into career criminals.

If foreigners living in Thailand do indeed have more often a criminal past, it might be that they are more often adventure seekers.

Not even one major crime doer as a juvie? Not believable.

Perhaps the initial Hypothesis was not correct.

It wasn't a hypothesis at all. It's a fact that Thailand has that rep. It seems even more so among Thais in my experience. I have no opinion on whether the rep is really true.

OK, time to fess up. I was arrested at age 13 (in the company of a 19 year old girl) for an herbal consumption offense. My long suffering parents made me throw out all my incense and tie-died shirts, but let me keep my bong because I was 'borrowing it from a friend'.

A fine memento.....I wish I still had the stereo I nicked from Curry's.

''Once a con, always a con'' was basically proven to be untrue in Australia about 100 years ago. The authorities were very concerned, that there appeared to exist a second and third generation of criminals descended from the early convict settlers, so a huge programme of data collection was undertaken. Nothing could be shown to be true and the experiment was abandoned.

Sadly, in another part of Europe, the idea of a superior race gained ground, and we all know how that ended.
