Buying A Inexpensive Android Phone For Bkk

Featured Replies

must it be some "international" phone to work in BKK ?

or what kind of network for now and the future is necessary?

i'm in USA, so will buy here and use during trips over there

thanks

For voice and text applications any unlocked, GSM900/1800 handset which can accept a SIM is fine. Typically these are referred to as tri-band phones. If you want to use 2G (GPRS/EDGE) data then get a phone which supports EDGE. It gets a bit more complicated if you want to use 3G.

You can purchase a new phone here for ~ 1,200 baht (or less) http://www.thaimobilecenter.com/spec/Nokia_X1-01.asp

Sorry, I just saw Android in the thread title, I overlooked that in my response. What is your budget? Do you plan to use 3G here in Thailand? What sort of models are you looking at currently? Do you have an Android phone now in the U.S.? If so, which model? (You may be able to use it here.)

budget is something near $100, as not sure when i will be over there again, no android phone now, there is one on ebay.com a G1 for $75 right now, with a broken camera,

not sure what 3G would mean for me , in the past, i just bought a new SIM card when i got to BKK and used it with topup cards from 711

i'd like to just make sure the band/network is not due to be obsolete or something

OK, got it. That's what I assumed but then saw Android in the title.

Anyway, any GSM 900/1800 capable handset, which can accommodate a SIM and is unlocked will be fine. If you buy in the U.S. and want any verification just provide a link or the model number. Alternatively you could buy an inexpensive new or used phone here. New phones sell for as little as 900 baht.
