BANGKOK, July 22 -- Thailand's Election Commission (EC) late Thursday endorsed 32 more candidates for seats in parliament as winning MPs, including leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), the Red Shirt movement, according to EC Secretary General Suthiphon Thaveechaiyagarn.

Mr Suthiphon said the agency took some 10 hours to consider complaints against winning candidates, finally dropping the complaints, and endorsed the third batch of 32 MPs -- six party-list members and 26 constituency-based MPs.

Pheu Thai Party MPs in the party-listed category that were endorsed include former Deputy House Speaker Apiwan Wiriyachai and Red Shirt leaders Weng Tojirakan, Wuphuthalaeng Pattanabhumthai, Korkaew Pikulthong, Wichian Khaokham and Pichit Cheunban.

Three other Red Shirt leaders who were winning candidates on the party list and remain suspended are Natthawut Saikua, Jatuporn Prompan who is detained at Bangkok Remand Prison, and Payab Pankate, and they must wait until the commission completes its investigation into whether they broke election laws, according to complaints filed against them.

Karun Hosakul, elected MP for Bangkok Constituency 12 of Pheu Thai Party was also suspended due to many complaints, he said.

A total of 402 MPs from 500 seats have been endorsed by EC so far -- 285 constituency seats and 117 as party-list MPs.

Ninety-eight winning MPs were still not yet acted upon -- eight party-listed candidates and 90 for constituency-based candidates.

To meet the minimum constitutional requirement of 475 seats, at least 73 more MPs must be endorsed for the first meeting of the Lower House of Parliament to be able to take place.

The EC meets Friday to consider whether 'yellow' or 'red' cards will be issued against any winning candidate. Yellow cards were given to Somkid Banthaising, winning candidate of the Pheu Thai Party in Nong Khai Constituency 2 and Jakkawan Chaiwiratnukul, the Bhumjaithai Party's winning candidate in Sukhothai Constituency 3.

A new election in the constituency will be held on July 31. (MCOT online news)

EC Endorse More MP-elects, Still Too Few

The Election Commission has endorsed more MP-elects.

Yesterday, the Election Commission endorsed another 32 MP-elects in the third round, including six elected red-shirt MPs from the Pheu Thai Party.

The six-red shirt MP-elects who were certified include Korkaew Pikulthong, Weng Tojirakan, Colonel Apiwan Wiriyachai, Wiputhalang Pattanapoomthai, Wirat Rattanaset, and Pichit Chuenban.

Red-shirt MP-party list-elects who have not been endorsed include Jatuporn Prompan, Natthawut Saikua, Payap Panket, and Karun Hosakul.

However, a large number of MP-elects who have not been approved by the EC remains.

Election Commissioner Sodsri Sattayatham said the EC has not finished investigating all complaints.

The fourth round of endorsements will likely be July 22.

The EC has approved a total of 402 MP-elects, which is still less than the 95 percent required for Parliament to convene its first session.

EC certifies 32 more MPs, 6 are UDD leaders

BANGKOK, 22 July 2011 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has endorsed the MP status for another 32 MP-elects, six of whom are core leaders of the red-shirt group, while more MPs are expected to be certified later today.

Yesterday, the EC held its third meeting to deliberate on the MP status of elected MPs, during which the commission agreed to give approval to a total of 32 more people, comprising 26 constituency MPs and 6 party-list MPs.

All of the newly certified party-list MPs are core leaders of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) under the banner of the Pheu Thai Party. They consist of Mr Korkaew Pikulthong, MD Weng Tojirakarn, Colonel Apiwan Wiriyachai, Mr Wiphuthalaeng Pattanaphumthai, Mr Wichien Khaokham and Mr Pichit Chuenban.

Other UDD core figures whose MP status is still pending the EC’s endorsement include Mr Natthawut Saikua, Mr Jatuporn Prompan and Mr Payap Panket. Outspoken Pheu Thai MP-elect for Bangkok’s Constituency 12 Karun Hosakul is also awaiting his certification due to a flood of complaints against him.

The EC is scheduled to proceed with its consideration process later today. So far, the commission has endorsed the MP status for 402 MPs, which is still less than 95 percent of the quorum or 475 MPs; therefore, the parliamentary session cannot be commenced yet.

EC to be sued if Jatuporn endorsed: Tul

By The Nation

Multi-coloured shirt leader Tul Sithisomwong on Friday threatened to sue the Election Commission for lapse of duty if red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan was endorsed as MP.

"The EC will face litigations in Criminal, Administrative and Elections courts for negligence," he said.

Tul said he would also launch a separate court battle to question Jatuporn's qualifications.

He was commenting on the EC's decision on Thursday to endorse the balloting outcome of six red-shirt leaders and allies, except Jatuporn and the remaining reds, Natthawut Saikua, Payap Panket, Karun Hosakul and Jaruphan Kuldilok.

He said he had no objection over the endorsement for the six reds.

Commenting on the Natthawut case, he said he believed the EC was still checking whether Natthawut had his Pheu Thai membership for 30 days before the July 3 vote.

Yellow shirts + Multi-colored shirts = PAD....these people are the biggest problems facing Thailand today. If they are not eliminated Thailand can never move forward.

Very true, but many on here will disagree and blame everything on Thaksin and the reds

Yeah red shirts are no problem at all. And they are quite useful if you need to burn down a building or terrorise hospital patients. Or if you need a bit of bomb-throwing done.

Interesting, So reconciliation means the elimination of one side of the equation?

Have we ever gotten a definition from the UDD or the PTP of the word "reconciliation?"

Reconciliation, if remembered correctly, by the definition of what majority of what Thais really want, was not to whitewash the actions done by both yellow or the red or whatever color, but by seeking justice for each action done! Right???

Sounds admirable, and I would go along with that from a personal standpoint. And it may be what the majority of Thais really want, I don't know.

What I'm looking for is a quote from any UDD or PTP leader, or even K Thaksin himself, defining the word "reconciliation." Has it ever been defined by these folks, or is it just a buzz-word?

No. The biggest problem is the international Global movement that is supporting the reds and Thaksin. And it is they who have created the problems in the first place. The story does not end with the election of the neo fascists. There's a long way to go yet.

Good god man! I doubt they can even spell it, let alone define it!

The reds (I'd imagine) define reconciliation as " We won, so do as we say." (but not as we do [did])

Reconciliation to them is simply a handy word to be used as justification for overturning court verdicts and whitewashing, primarily for Thaksin and chums, but they'll throw in a few free whitewashes for those in the opposition just to keep them quiet and make it look even-handed and fair.

This is not reconciliation,

it's just that the wolves have bribed the gate keepers to let them in the field,

and the sheeple can now be fleeced at leisure.

Yeah... we can see that eliminating dissenting voices,

regardless of how daft or inaccurate,

is going to bring peace... for the WINNERS.

Eliminate them and no one to see what you are steeling

and call you on it publicly. Deadmen tell no tales of what they see...

Everyone else is shit outta luck.

I gather from the responses about the PTP or UDD definition - or lack thereof - of "reconciliation" that no definition has been forthcoming from either body. I think it would be quite interesting for K Yingluck to be asked this question, and see how she defines it, and what process will take place to enact it.

One held peaceful protests while the other used M79s and cheap Chinese grenades on civilians and burned a bunch of buildings down when they didn't get their way.

The red shirts rules say

"I haven't committed a crime. What I did was fail to comply with the law.""

So no matter what they did, destroy or kill they are innocent as the rules say so

Neo faciasts? Which group is which now? Many in the forum call the Redshirts commmies or socialists.

Would it be possible for you anti PTP people to have a meeting and decide upon which derisive label you wish to assign to the PTP and UDD members.?

It would make it easier for some of us to more easily follow the rants.

Thank you.

A number of red leaders are in fact ex-communists. Hence "The People's Rhetoric" in many of the stage speeches.

I still vaguely remember that k. Thaksin went on record a few times with 'I'm not looking for revenge'. The last time must have been at least a week ago or so. Well that's one, now try to get some Pheu Thai execs or MPs to say the same, or a few UDD leaders (even though there seems to be a bit of overlap there). Some foreign posters here may want to listen to k. Thaksin's message as well.

Which shows yoiu how much of a construct from thin air the Red Shirt movement is. It contains old school Communists, Socialists, Fascists and Just plane thugs for hire. All mixed in under one umbrella message.

Facsists need not be right wing exclusively.

Most communist societies devolved into being under the thumb of leadership that fit this description well.l.

fas·cism

–noun

1. a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Think Mao or Stalin.

3. a fascist movement, especially the one established by Mussolini in Italy 1922–43.

Communism and fascism are not mutually exclusive in practice.

It need not resemble Only Mussolini's version.

I'm gonna go with fascists. Take a look at the political continuum and you'll see they aren't all that far apart anyway.
