britmaveric Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 New 2.5 Billion Baht Shopping Center to be constructed on Pattaya Beach Road. An interesting meeting now from the office of the Mayor of Pattaya, Khun Niran who welcomed a delegation from the Central Pattana Company from Bangkok who own a number of shopping centers in Bangkok and the Central Festival Center in North Pattaya. Head of the group was Khun Jaran, the Assistant Managing Director of the Group and his subordinates. The company has a plan to construct a huge shopping center on Pattaya Beach at the entrance to Soi 9, next to the Pattaya Police station. The group came to City Hall to discuss the plan with the Mayor and to receive his recommendations on the construction. The main concern is parking and the extra traffic expected on an already busy Pattaya Beach Road. The project is expected to cost a staggering 2.5 Billion Baht and the company confirmed that off street parking is a priority and they do not expect any extra traffic congestion on the beach because of the shopping center. We understand that construction will begin shortly. -Pattaya City News Thursday 27th October 2005

Soi 9 is very narrow and would struggle to cope.
davethailand Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Good that something being built might actually smarten the area up instead of the crappy beer bars or waste ground
Pattaya_Fox Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 agree it`s gradually been getting worse over the last couple of years and it seems a good position for a new venture as the plaza etc are getting a little dated now.
Connor McCloud Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Good that something being built might actually smarten the area up instead of the crappy beer bars or waste ground <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I heard that The Hilton Group PLC are trying to buy all of Arab town,Marine Plaza and Soi Lucky Star. It's about time someone built something to smarten THAT area up
Mighty Mouse Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 This is just what the authorities wanted....another excuse to dig up the footpath again. How can Pattaya financially sustain additional shopping complexes without pulling down some of the old ones?

How can Pattaya financially sustain additional shopping complexes without pulling down some of the old ones? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well there really aren`t that many to pull down. I think that this will be good for Pattaya and a very good improvement for that area next to the Police Station. Does anyone have any more info on this development?
chuckd Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Wonder where our city fathers are planning to get the potable water for it. Truck it in?
